I'm a new member and would like to start with thank you for a great forum. I purchased my 97 240sx in July,2012 the engine was pulled and conpletely disassembled by the previous owner when i received it. I did a full build and the engine is back in the car with reference help from this forum.

My issue,
I have 12v at my coil harness but I'm not getting spark past that point. My coil, distributor, cap, button, plug wires, plugs, timing are all good. I tested my coil harness, it's a two wire connector. I have 12v at both wires when I probe them separately and ground at engine. When I probe both of them together I'm getting less than 1v. Could my proble be in the harness or am I looking in the wrong place. Don't know what else to check and have 2 hand fulls less of hair.

Hmmm... are there any codes in the ECU?

It almost sounds like a bad crank angle sensor or something. Have you looked in the factory service manual?

No there are no code in the ecu. The engine was out for more than two years before I received it. when I restored power to the system the ecu was clear. I'll try to get a service manual.

I'm back to the distrebutor and the two wire connecter that plugs in to the coil. To answer my own question both of these wires should be hot (12v). Unless I have tested my power resister in the distrebutor wrong it's bad. I picked it up from a salvage yard hoping to save a buck. Doesn't look like that happened. Going to replace the distrebutor agian and that should do it. More after I get it installed.

Have you figured anything out yet?

I was having this problem as well, turned out I was getting a nasty voltage drop when I would crank the engine because of a bad battery ground.
