new ka24de motor.

im thinkin about buying this 155k ka24de. the guy had over heating problems so he swaped it for something else. he swears up and down its not a cracked block or warped head. he thinks its a headgasket. anywayz whats the first step i should do to rebuild this motor? if the block is fine what should i do? imma get new piston rings but do i have to hone out the cylinder to do so? just kind of lost on the first steps to make it run and build it on the way.
