Just wanted to introduce myself and my 240SX from Puerto Rico...

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2242751/1

About the cams, I've heard a lot about using two S13 KA exhaust cams to get a 248/248 setup. I began considering to do it myself and came accross the 1993 240SX Factory Service Manual while doing some research. According to the manual (EM section, page 47) the intake cam is 248 degs. and the exhaust cam is 240 degs. Does this mean that everyone that did the "Dual Exhaust Cam Swap" is actually running a 240/240 instead of the 248/248 setup they think they have? I need the truth!

no, its 240/248 intake/exhaust cam, if you see in the FSM it says a on the pic then it says intake open/close, then you see b on the exhaust open/close, then you read down on the chart it says a = 240 b = 248.

tho that is a nice explanation of how the intake/ exhaust go as far as tdc in the FSM.

i believe brian crower measured them to be something else depending on what degree is it on, and showing that it was actually less than 240 for intake and less than 248 for exhaust @ such open/close degree, there's a thread somewhere if ya search for it.

oh and welcome.

nice ka-t, i always though the stock clutch fan without the shroud wouldn't be as efficient on cooling, and so the car would overheat with just the fan, i guess it depends.(i dont' exactly care cause i have altima fans, but working on my friends 240's can be a pain due to havin to take out the shroud all the time)

On my FSM the "a" line is the outermost ring in the graph which goes from "exhaust opens" to "exhaust closes" and on the table it says "a"=240. The "b" line in the graph is the innermost ring which goes from "intake opens" to "intake closes" and on the table it says "b"=248. Even when you look at the graph I can notice that the exhaust cam is closed longer than the intake cam is, meaning the intake cam has more duration degrees. I'm trying to figure out a way to show you the image but it's an Adobe file and I'd have to put up the whole FSM instead of just that page. Anyways, thanks for the welcome!

See what I mean... According to the diagram and table in the above attachments:

Outermost ring=a=exhaust cam=240 degs.

Innermost ring=b=intake cam=248 degs.

Therefore, a dual exhaust cam setup is actually 240/240, not 248/248 as most KA owners believe.

NO!!!!, it is dual 248, this was already covered.

Also, a fan without a shroud is WORTHLESS!! Just take it off, you only overheat at long lights.

Finally, why would you run an FMU with 370s? Do you have a tune?

Okay Sunshine, apparently you woke up in a bad mood today...

1. The FSM actually says the intake cam is a 248 and the exhaust is a 240, but after doing some math with diagram and table in the attachment I realized it's a TYPO. Although it's wrong, 248 IC and 240 EC is what it says.

2. I live in Puerto Rico, not Pittsburgh, where the temperatures average 90 degs.F. during the day all year long, I get stuck in traffic jams and long lights constantly and I've NEVER had overheating problems... I'll make sure to ask for your advice whenever I do.

3. I run the 370s, a Walbro 255 and an SAFC because it works and that is the way I tuned my car. The FMU was removed a long time ago. I apologize for not keeping my CarDomain page up to date.

Feel better now, Munchkin?

The fan shroud being necessary is fact. Also, maybe your FSM says that, mine does not. And finally, I wake up in a bad mood everyday, HA! Welcome to NICO.
