So I just put a new ka24e in my 240sx, much fresher with some aftermarket goodies...Unfortuneately, it's now running quite rich (black smoke at high RPMs)and I'm convinced my timing is off. I didn't disconnect my TPS when I did it so obviously I have to do it again. The problem is, when I set the timing, I looked at the timing marks etc from the very front of the car, now I have been told I'm supposed to do it looking from the #1 cyl position?

If anyone could clear this up that would be great, the FSM was no help, I just want to see how this thing really runs!

The engine needs to be at TDC compression stroke. To confirm this, put a dipstick in the sparkplug hole of cylinder 1 and hand crank until it doesnt come up or down anymore(the apex of the stroke). From there, time the car. If you need, there is a timing sticky around here somewhere.
