Umm,, I was REALLY surprised at the difference this new part made. Now, I know it wasn't huge, and maybe it's just the sound, but throttle response is much better, and, well, I REALLY like it!

Next Up:

Short ShifterBrake Brace

Then:

Stillen Exhaust.

Then:

???

yup it's the sound, I think it somethign like 5-7 whp gain, not much but every little bit helps, and yeah definitely effects the sound of the intake, don't waster your money on the brake brace, if you want to do something to increase brake feel get braided lines

and with intake and exhaust covered if you intend to stay N/A an ecu would go well with the intake and exhaust

Couple Questions:

1. Does the stock ECU "learn" new tricks? I've only seen this mentioned one place. My Cougar learns it's settings everytime that you reset it. (You have to reset it, it doesn't reset everytime you start the car or anything.) Does disconnecting the battery cause a reset on the 300ZX?

2. With an ECU upgrade, I have seen two main names; JWT and Ash-Spec. Is one any better than the other?

3. Is reliability an issue with an ECU upgrade? I mena, while 82 - 84 K miles isn't a lot, do I need to be concerned by anything when using an ECU upgradde?

4. Finally, UltimateZ shows a "computer upgrade" as "Stage II" for an N/A car, but wouldn't it be better for me to get the new exhaust on first? I assume that I will need to tell the ECU manufacturer what my current upgrades are. (Is that true, or does it matter?)

Thanks,

Ken

1. no the stock ecu doesn't learn anything2. JWT is the top name but at a price3. not with a propper chip, if there is a problem you got a bad one, stick with name brands and the chances are good you won't have any issues4. the generic "stage 3" is intake , exhaust, and ECU, I guess they like the idea of dois the ecu forst, i think the basic idea si to get the intake and exhaust first then a chip to better use them, without the other mods the chip has very little to improve upon form stock

I mean, "Stage III" is a stupid term when you are playing with an N/A sportscar. I mean, PLEASE!!

Still, is it necessary to do the intake-exhaust BEFORE doing the ECU?

"stages" in general is stupid terminology. The Stillen (or similar) stage charts for the Z32 are simply meant as a recommended modification guideline, not as rules. Most things can be in any order you wish. On an NA ECU is only really needed for things like fuel upgrade, jwt nitrous wot program, agressive cams, etc. TT's are a different story though as the ECU upgrade is much more necessary.
