I have never been a fan of Jaguar's. Sure a few models have looked good but who can afford to keep them on the road right? My wifes aunt and uncle had an 2000's X type that they purchased new at less then 50k miles it was transmission time. I talked them into a S class Mercedes instead and they have never looked back.

I read Road and Track and this month's issue had a comparo Audi, Jag, Hyundai, BMW. The Audi 'won' but the Jag was a close 2nd. I started reading up on it looking at more pics even went to the dealership for a look in person. I LOVE this car. I LOVE it.

There is a used 2011 Autotrader for $56k?

0-60 is 4.4 seconds
12.8 in the 1/4 mile
64.8 mph slalom
.87 G's on the skid pad

I had always thought end of year next year I would retire my 07 Sequoia from daily driver duty and pick up the newest lowest miles E63 mercedes I could find. But this might be better?

C&D said the Jag was the car they'd take home, even if it didn't win the comparison. It looks weird, but it's awesome.

That touch screen though... not so great.

I read that it has some lag between taking commands and that it is not very precise. I personally HATE touch screen anything cause I have big fat arthritic fingers at 33. The back looks very strange in pictures but much nicer in person Bently-ish even.

Its a car that is hard to brand because it doesn't look like a Jag to me.

The handling discriptions in the car mags sounds like how I feel about my G35 sedan. Its a touch slower then an E63 but it looks like I can buy a newer car for the same money. E series Mercedes kind of blend in parts of Phoenix because they are everywhere. The Jag will stand out more not everyone has one.

It's gorgeous. I love the nose, and the headlights. I love the vertically-oriented tail-lights. The XJL has always looked long, and this one does, too. My favorite part of it, though, is that the XJR, along with the XF, are the first Jaguars in a long time with the rear axle in the right place. Most recent Jaguars (previous XJs, S-type, X-type) have had rear overhangs big enough to shelter a small family. Not anymore. Those rear tires are back at the corner where they should be.
I wish the rear deck was level, though. I've never liked droopy decklids, regardless of the roofline they're transitioning from. I think a level deck would sharpen up the car's proportions significantly, but in a subtle way that most people wouldn't even notice.

The Jaguar AJ V8 is also magnificent. Silky, silky smooth, it makes nearly every other piston engine on the planet feel crude. It sounds amazing, even if Jaguar tends to over-muffle it. Its torque curve makes most of its DOHC compatriots cry themselves to sleep. And the latest iteration makes impressive power and torque for its size.

Please don't hold the X-type against Jaguar. It's not a Jaguar, it's a Contour. It's a Ford econocar platform with Ford engines. There's not an ounce of Jaguar in its blood.
As far as being able to afford to keep Jaguars on the road...mine has been just as affordable as any car I've ever owned.

the new Jags, while breaking away from how they've looked over the past 30 years, are freakin' pretty.

the X Type was Mondeo based wasn't it?

Yep. It was supposed to be their volume-seller, but that didn't work out well. It barely managed to outsell the S-type.

The X-type was a good idea lacking in execution, and investment, and originality, and... well the list of problems is a long list. The Mondeo itself is an exceptionally competent family car.

I'd buy one as a fancy winter vehicle since they came with standard AWD. I don't think the X-type Estate ever made it here -- that would be an excellent form of daily transportation with space for everything.

Audi RS6 Avant, I don't think you can get it in the states I saw it on Top Gear where it was beaten by a pair of Frenchmen in a race to a pub.

I'm really excited for the C-X16 from them actually. Proper looking sports car.

"The C-X16 features a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) similar to that used in Formula One. This allows the kinetic energy of the moving vehicle to be captured when the car brakes, and then stored for later use during acceleration. When charged, the system provides an additional 70kW and 235Nm of torque for up to 10 seconds. Power is instantaneously available and the battery is constantly and automatically recharged as the car moves."

If you can find one used they are normally cheaper then a sedan used (E63).. there was a nice black on black one in Texas with 56k miles stuck at just under $40,000 for about a month before someone picked it up. I don't buy new cars.

There is 1 on autotrader in Florida 2007 49k miles $47k I bet you could get it for low 40's.

The jag certainly is sexy looking, but the "i-drive" looking knob for shifting gives me concern for long term ownership beyond the warranty. I have a good friend who normally leases Jags, but this time around he went for a new Audi A5, which is also a sexy car.

For Sure!

And its not just the little shifter knob to worry about. When you start the car the center vents flip open and the knob comes up. When the car turns off the knob goes down and the vents flip over. The back side of the center vents are smooth to make the dash smooth when the car is off.

Lots of stuff to break.
