Just picked up a 93 J, with only 116,000 miles. I previously owned a 96 Deville and 94 Bronco, and all I can say is the j is in another league.

I've got a couple issues

The idle is absolute crap, drops down almost to 500, and then the motor feels like its struggling to stay alive, once its up in the revs tho, it feel fine and pulls hard. I cleaned the maf, replaced the plugs, and air filter. I plan on tackling the IAC tomorrow, if anyone has a picture or write up that would be great so I know what I am looking for.

Second issue is on the pass side of the engine bay there is what looks like a sensor right behind the battery. It has a little rubber top that is torn, and a white cylinder that is movable up and down. I have no idea what it is, I am assuming the rubber shouldn't be torn either.

The factory cd player doesn't work, it sounds damn good for a 15 year old car tho, its a bose. Is swapping out the headunit with another double din (aftermarket) pretty easy? Or should I just deal with only being able to listen to the radio?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I tried searching for my questions before I posted.

That's part of the hood release mechanism and not a sensor. My rubber part has been torn for years.

Well that makes me feel better. I still can't figure out the idle issue, I have cleaned the iac, maf, and throttle bodies. Changed out the air filter and spark plugs. I am begining to think its battery related, but would a week battery cause a screwy and rough idle?

What plugs did you install ??

If it was battery related I would think turning on the headlights would make the symptom worse.
