Ok, so since I cut my upper timing cover the other day, my car has been acting super odd. Yesterday morning, ran super great. But last night, ran fine for about 15 minutes then it started sputtering every once in a while, then all of a sudden, it acted like my MAF died. It would rev out of gear, but in gear, it would barely go and just shoot SERIOUS flames. I tried to limp home and the motor shut off. It would turn right back on no problems. Then it would idle just fine, but would not go under any kind of throttle. I unhooked the battery and left it.

This morning, it was just fine. Then, after running some errands, it started sputtering again. I got to my final destination as it shut off again. So, yeah....at a loss. I am thinking CAS again. I bought a new timing cover on eBay this morning and that may help, as I said it had been running fine until I cut it. I think the CAS is flexing and showing a bad reading. So I dunnno.

The main thing that has me stumped is that it will drive fine for quite a while: I drove to class today, in traffic, for like 15 minutes with no drama; on the way home, after 10 minutes of the drive, it started acting up again.

I tried removing the CAS and cleaning the connectors and cleaning my MAF. Seemed fine till the afore mentioned last leg of my trip home this morning. Sigh. Hopefully the CAS I am going to get from Dee fixes this...

How similar? Did your tach needle jump around? Did the motor sputter and die? I have had a coil go bad, and the motor act just fine except for a dead cylinder. This is like the whole motor is freaking out. The only factory coil I have left is the #1. Is there something special about that one that could cause this?

Ok, just did it again. I pulled my ECU (after verifying a code 55) and played with the wires at the plug end. Hooked it back together, and took it for a 10 minute drive. Nothing. Perfect. What the hell. I just redid the harness, and it has been fine. I am so at a loss...

could be wireing...

The power transister can go bad. The pulsar boards are riddled with "once it warms up it runs like poo" often a coil, once in a while the PT is bad.

Different motor, but exact same symptoms..........my old ca18et did this one time, and it was the CAS decided to take a crap. My ecu threw a code for it though. Replaced it with a new one, and that took care of it. Man I don't miss that motor

See, right after it acted goofy I pulled codes and nothing. It drove fine tonight. I will see if it does it again and get that CAS that Dee has for me.

So does that mean you figured it out, or you don't know yet?

I assume since it has yet to do it again, it was a wiring hitch. I recrimped wires and reseated the plug on the ECU and all was well. I am installing some 450s today (hopefully...I have a list of things to work on lol) so I will see if pulling the ECU to install the new ROM jacks anything up. Stay tuned...
