just like the title says, i decided to look into an aftermarket intake pipe for the sr20 but didnt wanna shell out the money most places ask for it. didderson just picked one up thats a really nice piece for $95 which isnt that bad but i wanted to see if i could go an alternative route as opposed to just buying one online. i took teh stock rubber piece to a local muffler shop and pretty much told them to replicate it and weld a bung on for the catch can. the did 2 mandrel bends and welded them together and then added a bung. the weld is kinda crappy (ok, really crappy) but i didnt complain since it only costs $25 even. its a nice 2.5 inch piece and despite the bad weld im pretty happy with the turn out. if ur interested in something similar i recommend u check with a local exhaust shop as well. now on to the pics, i dont have the filter on it because its still drying from being cleaned and as u can see i painted the mafs and filter adapter semi gloss black. i'll have pics of it installed tomorrow, enjoy

ps- the pipe is coated with an aluminum colored engine enamel

I would take that thing to a grinding wheel first and get rid of that weld.... Then re-paint it chrome or silver

When we fab up pipes, I always grind the welds down. Pigeon sh1t welds tend to have teensy leaks in them, and when you grind the weld down, the metal will fill in the pinholes and eliminate the leak.

The pipe does look good though, and you can't beat a $25 intake pipe.

sorry i just have clarified. that shop does some of the best work in the area. this is some of the worst ive ever seen and not like them at all. when i change the integras oil i might snap a few shots of what their welds normally look like. i've had em do a few exhausts for me and they've all been top quality

I tried doing something like this, but unfortunatley, NO muffler shops in my area have mandrel benders

I wanted to do that myself. Let us know how it fits/ performs. You consider maybe selling a couple in the fabricators market, I'd buy one.

yeah, that weld sucks but, if im right....you said that was aluminum? Thats the hardest thing to weld, even though an experienced welder should be able to do that job clean and easy. I think maybe he just got a little rushed......perhaps other jobs he had to get to, but its nice non-the less. I would buy one if you got to having them made.......props.
