Well.. I'm not sure if I will be or not. I've been registered a long time, and I have a few questions.

The J30T I'm looking at is not in the best shape, but the price is damn right. I'm looking at about $1000 CAD all said and done for a decent J30t.

200K km, although no maintenance records, and do not know when/if the timing belt has been done.Things wrong with it:

Blower motor? (The LCD climate control works, and if you press "fan on/up" you can see it try to turn the fan up, but no noise.)Drivers window motor (not a big deal, rolls down fine, needs help rolling up.)1 head lamp out (not a big deal)non working dash clock

Other than that, everything seems pretty solidPros: $1kCons: timing belt done? blower motor? window motor? records?Pros: $1K

Am I just going to get screwed? What else should I look out for? THanks in advance.

If I get the car soon, I'll post some pics. I'm sure I'll be visiting alot more.

If anyone here is into oldschool toyota's check out http://www.dorikaze.com <- good site!

Cheers!

Nice price if it runs strong, what year? Any car that runs is usually worth that much, but upkeep is pricey relative to other cars that merely run.

Hope this helps, Ebb

bodaciousbob welcome to NICO!!!

I would be leery about a J30 without maintenance records. These cars are still expensive for upkeep.

I would have a mechanic throughly check it out, especially one that is knowledgeble in the J30/300zx ( do a search on google for Alberta and 300zx, I'm pretty sure that there is a club in Alberta, members can point you to a good mechanic). If you can't find one have the local Nissan dealer run a through inspection.

Agreed. Here is what not knowing how much parts are for this bad boy will do to you. My case anyway. When I bought the J, I paid $1400. It needed as follows;

Back seat, the old one was tore up. Paid 50 bucks for a grade A seat at salvage.

Right front corner light. Paid 20 bucks on ebay.

Right front fender, paid 100 bucks for matching color at salvage.

Somehow the guy had the VTC's to where they weren't ticking but shortly after I bought it. . . tick, tick, tick. Also, The trans shifted fine but again, a couple weeks after I bought it , Check AT light.

So here's where I am at so far.

Car>> $ 1400Back seat $50Fender $100Corner light $20VTC Sprockets: $ 750Speed Sensor: $ 140Full 60K, Cam/Crank seals, All new belts, thermostat, water pump, T-belt, Tensioner etc. $350Labor for 60K, $500

Some of this was expected, some was not. All in all I have a good running, decent looking car for 3K.`Gope this helps

Car runs great at 188K, If you have the cash to get some repairs done, buy it for 1000 Can. It will run a long time if you get/keep the maintainance up to date.

these problems dont sound major, if you get the J, just post up the problems that you are facing, i'm sure they can be resolved easily and without breaking the budget....

the important things are the engine and transmission, take the car to a mechanic and have them check it out for you (excluding a timing belt, it can look new, but could be overdue)

Well.I should be picking up the car on thursday.

$800.

Not so bad! She wanted $2K, but since I didnt know if the timing belt had been/was done recently, and there were a few other things, I haggled HARD! Plus I knew the lass who was selling it was hard up for dough.

Once I get the car, I'll go snap some pics for all of you.

I'm excited to get off the broken AE86 path that girls hate, and into the path of a VIP Luxo mobile that will make girls wetter than downing a 2-6 of gin in 32 seconds.

Sweet.

You do need a blower motor to get the A/C and heat running. I have to change mine and It is a pain in the butt if you don't have the right tools. You have to take the whole glove compartment out to get to it.

You can pick up a used blower motor for about $80. If you have trouble finding one got to brandywineautoparts.com they have plenty for that price.
