We've been seeing a lot of posts lately from people interested in KA-T about how much it costs to obtain so-and-so amount of horsepower. I was thinking about it and I wanted to try an idea that I think could turn out to be a good resource for a lot of people.

If everyone would, I'd like every current KA-T owner to post 2 numbers: their most recent peak horsepower number (at the wheels), and the amount that was spent to obtain that figure. To keep things universal, when calculating the total cost for yourself, please only include money that was spent on the engine itself, drivetrain (engine/transmission/driveshaft), and supporting mods (gauges, IC stuff, managment tools, exhaust, etc). Do NOT include extras like seats, rear ends, wheels/tires, suspension, etc. I realise that these are often necessary for KA-T cars, but those costs are easially added in later.

I'm going to post this on a few other forums as well, I'd like to get enough data to make up a scatterplot which hopefully we can see some sort of trend. It would definitely provide a definitive answer to those "how much $" questions, and I think it would really help people visualize what is really involved with these KA-T projects.

One more important point: ONLY REAL FIGURES FROM CURRENT OWNERS OF WORKING, DYNO'ed KA-T CARS will be considered! No "well I plan to spend this much and get this much power" posts please-- I'd like this to be as accurate as possible.

Let's see those numbers! I'll start with myself:

Horsepower: 430 rwhp$ Spent: $10,875

No dyno yet. But I have track times:

Best ET-13.404Best trap-107.4mph

Total spent to get there

Parts-Approx. $4500Car-$3300

A lot of people also ask what it would take to get their car to run "this time, or this time," at the track as well...

$2010.

We kinda already have a thread like this: zerothread?id=38554

Perhaps someone can send them a link to this thread so they can mention how much it cost.

I am on stock internals.

Power output at ten psi and 13 degrees of timing: 246rwhp (probably making more power as i now run 12 psi and 15 degrees of timing)

Cost: $2652The goal was to stay under 2 grand but the clutch and electronics did me in.

Forgot about track times:14.1 @103.9mph with a doodoo 60ft time of 2.39 ~ my first and most of second wont catch with the street tires made for rain and the stock diff..............its a 13 second car in my eyes

Well sorry I'm not dynoed as yet however, based on what I've been told somewhere between 210-230rwhp.

As I'm sponsored this system did'nt cost me anything however here's a break down on the parts and it's in Canadian $ so just convert it. I'm also going to add in my fuel management because it's an important part of ANY ka-t set up.

SR T25 turbo - $225.00SSA Mani - $240.00Walboro Pump - $200.00SR 370 injectors - $100.00Megan Racing 3" D/P - $145.00"MR" FPR - $100.00SAFC - $200.00SR smic - $150.00GReddy Type S bov - $100.00and lets just ball park all the lines, fittings, gauges, plugs, wires and other items at around $350.00 ish.

Total = $1810.00 Canadian for a complete running ka-t @ 7psi

Hope this was usefull.

~300rwhp at 12psi...runs low-13s at ~110mph.

....

Turbo (Garrett T3/T4, 57-trim), TiAL 35mm wastegate, DP flange, RevHard Manifold, SR 370cc Injectors, 1G DSM BOV, Autometer Phantom Gauges (AF+Boost), JGS oil lines and fittings, Mandrel Piping, Hose Couplers..._____________________________________________

All for $1,562, but add $100 for misc stuff like clamps, a brass "T" for the turbo inlet, RTV, vacuum hoses, etc...

So call it $1,662 ... non-intercooled setup, 224rwhp at 6psi.

...

Then I added the intercooler (new) and 2 more pounds-o-boost:

GReddy VSPL intercooler kit, $800 ... and you have ~$2,500 TOTAL for 250rwhp @ 8psi.

...

Then I upgraded the fuel to JWT, 50/lb.hr injectors, Cobra MAF, top feed rail...and upped the boost to 12psi.

*Used* JWT ECU and fuel setup, $600 ... and you now have $3,100 TOTAL for ~300rwhp @ 12psi.

...

I already had an ACT clutch, and have since added a full 3" exhaust ($200)...

...and I did EVERY bit of work myself.

I also waited for deals, searched the web, etc...and saved a lot like that.

My fuel system, for example...new, was $1200 or so...but I found a DEAL.

Hope that helps.

This is the thread I cry in.

200rwhp

$15000 - including everything with price of car.

i guess as far as parts though, probably around $8000, and most of it do to labor.

Seen Orion's setup in person. Its one of the cleanest setups I've seen. So, definately a prime example of patience pays off.

We really should make sure that we list the turbo specs...ie trim and a/r.

On my set up...before the motor popped...279.66 @ 15.8 psi. Garrett T04B/T3 .60 A/R, H3 trim, sleeve bearing turbo. Stock bottom end. This was with a bad #4 cylinder and turbo oil seals that went a week later.

Before the incident I was at $3000. After the incident I have a new built bottom end now and t3/t04e. I am still breaking in the motor so no dyno data yet. A complete parts list can be found here...http://98s14inaz.onlineshowoff.com
