I've got a 2000 I30. w/ 131,000milesWell, I do know that Po430 is bank 2 catalytic converter. I'm not sure but I think that is the center converter, I know there are 3 of em. I'm not as car savy as many of you seem to be. Just a girl who's in need of some answers. I'm not trying to install this myself. Just researching the best I can. I want to make sure I understand a few things. If that converter went bad, doesn't that usually mean something caused it to go bad? Or not necessarily? I have had it inspected by a couple different shops now. And the only code that comes up is that converter. One place couldn't do it, the other wanted over a grand. I went to take it to a muffler shop today and it stalled out. It didn't want to stay running. This hasn't happened before. I had to press the accelerator when idling to keep it running. So, would the converter be the reason the car stalled out? No one has been able to find anything else wrong with the car. I'm just worried that the converter may now have cause some other damage. Is that possible? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. I just want to inform myself the best I can.

Bank 2 is the front bank, so the bank 2 cat will be the forward cat.

Catalytic converters wear out with time and use since they react (which is why they're called catalytic) with exhaust to convert it chemically. Once enough of the catalyst material is used up the cat won't be able to meet original specs, so it'll read as bad.

It's possible that the cat itself is fine and the O2 sensor reading from it is actually bad. Since the car is running poorly, I'm inclined to think that's the real problem.

Hey, thanks for your reply. Turns out the stalling was due to the idle air control. Cat still needs to be replaced. But running fine as is with the new IAC.
