New Hybrid Idea S14 + EJ25

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I know anything is possible with enough money and custom fabrication but here's a thought I pondered the other day...

Take an S14 chassis and drop an EJ25 out of a turbo WRX. Will it work? how much custom fabrication would be needed. I know you would need custom mounts, custom wiring, but would it fit. Would you have to mount it rotated 90 degrees?

Here's my other thought, the 2JZ trend is starting to catch on with the S chassis cars, but has anyone ever done a 7MGTE out of a Mk. III Supra?

Just some things to ponder

can't change the rotation of the engine, unless you are planning on dry sump, event thought it is a flat 4 it is not designed to be used upsidedown.

It should fit, you could probably run the wrx trans(garbage) with a center diff eliminator. It would be no tighter in an s chassis that it would be in a subaru, but it takes 2 hours to change spark plugs.

The 7mgte would be an eaiser swap, but why, just to be cool?

and on a side not, get that new engine in there yet??

I am always looking at different swaps, not so much to be cool but more for the uniqueness of it. I generally try to be different when it comes to car related things. I don't want to do a cookie cutter swap like the SR and be yet another JDM SR powered 240. I like the RB swap but I don't have the money, equipment or time to invest into my car doing such a thing. Not to mention it wouldn't pass inspection or emmissions. The EJ25 has a lot of power potential and even more aftermarket support, not to mention the exhaust note is a head turner in a good way plus its sold in factory cars here so the DMV would have no issues with it. What I was talking about by rotating it was by turning it 90 degrees to the left or are they RWD with a front diff. The 7MGTE is readily available, fairly inexpensive, and the aftermarket support and resources are plentiful. Not to mention its a bulletproof block for the most part and built to take heavy abuse if need be. Leave it to Toyota to make they're flagship sportscar not only powerful but also fairly indestructible.

As far as getting my car back on the road, that is a no, I will start the rebuild process the beginning of next month and hope to have it running by sometime in July. So if you are bored and want to help out towards the end of June please feel free to drop me a line, I could use all the help I can get when it comes to putting the refreshed block back together.

don't see why it couldn't be done. Figure there's a Sunny with a Ferrari v8, figure anything is possible.

Why would you need to rotate it 90 degrees and in what direction? The engine is already mounted transversely...unless ure thinking of mounting the cylinders vertical...like straight up and down. That completely defeats the advantage of a horziontally opposed engine having a low centre of gravity.

I´ve worked with the 7MGTE a few times, changed head gaskets and turbo´s. They are pretty good but I would swap in a RB instead. Everything is better and can´t see any good reasons to pick the 7MGTE in front of other Nissan 6-cyl.

No comment on the subaru engines.

the ej25 mounts in similar to a rear wheel drive car, but there is also an engine mount that goes to the firewall. You would also have to measure the width of the engine and the width of the wheel wells to determine if it would fit. It is a sweet engine, but if you cant afford a RB swap, theres no freaking way you will be able to afford a ej25 swap.

EJ25's do not make power near as easy as the SR20. Example: My Sti with a GT30R on pump gas 398whp. It is all wheel drive so there is another 10% lost on the dyno over rwd. Same dyno on my SR20 w/GT2871r...... 391whp on pump gas. Were talking smaller turbo and 20% less displacement. Same types of mods on both setups.

VG30E-T - cheap, reliable, very strong, Nissan, and there are so many around its impossible not to find one. Get a VG30E, put on a good turbo using Z31 or custom exhaust setup, get proper fuel mods, maybe do a little head porting with some cams, make 400++ to the wheels without even touching the internals and enough torque to melt tires whenever you feel like it. If you blow it, spend a couple hundred for another VG or put in some better internals.

On top of that, its shorter and lower than the KA and is the same weight if not a little less (based on the weights of the VG30ET and KA24DE that I've seen floating around online) so weight balancing would probably be even better with a lower center of gravity as well.

That's the type of answer I was looking for. Did some searching and LS1 & LT1's are going for 2K plus in the Philadelphia area not to mention I dont have the slghtest idea where to get the parts for the swap (ie motor mounts). 7M's are fairly cheap around here and they have a massive amount of aftermarket parts.
