What do the Defi gauges go for?
You could have some real fun making up startup sequences for those things. One of the few mostly aesthetic things I would consider putting in my car.
A good gauge is worth it's weight in gold ...
Accurate metering of the engine parameters go a long way in preventing mishaps. I know of 2 occassions where the Defi gauges have saved my friends engine from blowing up. One was when the fuel pump was dying and it tripped his fuel pressure warning and the other when he was flogging the car and his oil temp was approaching melt down due to a clogged passage to the oil cooler.
Even if he were running an off the shelf Autometer gauge it wouldn't have alerted him unless he were to physically look at the gauge. The beauty of peak/warning/hold gauges is that you don't have to constantly monitor them.
The Defi control unit II (which is required for the Defi's to work) has a 3 minute reply function which is long enough for a single lap at even a large track. It's mini-me datalogging lol.
Defi has 3 different series of gauges... the cheapest being the D-Gauge which go for $115+ per gauge, the Link series which are $150+ per gauge, and the BF series which are $175+ per gauge.
However, for the Defi series it is cheaper to just buy the VSD Concept (the heads up unit (HUD)) which displays 2 shift lights, speed, RPM, and whichever parameter you set it to (oil pressure, temp, water temp, etc.) and the corresponding sensors. It makes for a cleaner install and allows you to get instant feedback without looking down at a gauge. Plus if one of the inputs goes past your warning point the VSD instantly switches to that sensors input and displays it, along with a rather annoying sound lol.
This is one instance where aesthetics meets practicality.
