Im planning my sr swap and am debating if I should change out the Head Gasket and timing chain before I put it in. I plan on getting a blacktop SR clip and was going to change the Head Gasket and Timing chain while it was out, but as I think about it, I wonder if that is just overkill. Since the engine will be relatively low mileage, 50k or so, these parts should still be good right? I don't see how that kind of mileage, or sitting for 9 years would damage the timing chain and all of its components. Same for the Head Gasket, however sitting for a long time may effect it. I plan on keeping the engine completely stock for a year or two until I have some money to get it up to about 250whp, thats as far as Im going with it. Is it really worth while to replace theses things, or am I just wasting my time and money?

For stock and 250 hp I would leave both of those items stock. The headgasket may be a good idea later on or if you just want to knock it out real quick but the timing chain doesnt need to be replaced if the original one still looks good.
