Hello All,

I have a 2000 pathy and I have a few questions:

1. In the winter for some reason when I turn corners even at low speeds I fishtail, sometimes even with the 4x4 engaged, can you make some suggestions on how to resolve this without putting bags of salt in the cargo area. I also use all season tires

2. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to change my rear diff fluid please?

3. I want to change my running board because they are rusting, what kind/designs are you guys using?

4. I have a weird squeeking from the rear and I dont think its the suspension or outside but I think its coming from inside the cargo area, has anyone ever notice this on their own rides before? I did push down on the rear cargo door and when I did, the sound it made was very similar to what I hear when I am driving - any ideas?

5. Good to be here

Thanks

dont know on that one... what brand/model tires do you have?

its really simple, you just need a 1/4" socket driver, open the fill plug first (important) and then the drain plug second.... (you dont want to drain it first only to find out that the fill plug is stuck) plus it helps it drain. Recommended lube is pennzoil 80w-90 gear oil or diff fluid whatever they call it. You can get it for $10/bottle at the dealership or you can get it for $3/bottle at your local parts store. Its the yellow bottle. You need about three bottles for a differential. You fill it till it starts spilling out the fill hole and thats it!

i think i know what you are talking about. My rear hatch squeaked while driving and its incredibly annoying. Its because the unibody chassis on our pathfinders flexes slightly while driving, and i think the rubber gaskets/stoppers squeak when rubbing around. I put small pieces of dynamat where the stoppers touch, and keep the gaskets clean. it helps greatly but does not eliminate the squeak completely.

I have Wranglers on mine, and they SUCK. If that's what you have, then I feel for ya.I have the same traction problems as you. That's why I run with winter tires (on separate rims.). Huge difference.

tires can make a huge difference.... even on brand new BFG all terrains, i can swing the tail around on slick surface very easily, whereas when i had an aggressive mud tire, i could not get it to lose traction, even in 2wd!

For the win, you should check out some dedicated snow tires. To compare, my 97 240sx would previously get stuck in a 1/4 inch of snow. I put arctic alpins on it in the winter, and it actually performed as well, if not a tad better than my 99.5 qx4 did with 4wd.

I think a 4x4 with snows would be amazing.
