Greetings.

I am posting to introduce myself. My Name is Patrick Griffith I live in southern AZ.
I am in the process of buying a 1982 Datsun 720 King Cab. It has 189,000 miles on it.
I am buying it for $400 cash. I have put down $100 on it so far, and will put another $100 on the 5th of this month.
Does anyone have any advice? I am wanting to lift the truck in the future. it has many problems, but it is quite a fun truck to drive!

I already am. I have been driving it for about 2 weeks. I just did a temporary rewire on the stereo. Its Sounds Bangin!
My problems are: the transmission, its jumping, Headlights are not very bright, the tires are going awfuly fast, wearing down the tred. A few other problems.. I cant think of them right now.

Welcome.
I bought a 84 King Cab 4X4 a little over a year ago. I have been working on it since. She was in pretty good shape when I got her. Kathleen is her name, and you can see her on the "Post your truck" thread. You will have alot of fun working on your truck. They are relatively simple compared to more modern pick-ups. If it is 2WD get it aligned to correct the tire wear. It is easy to adjust the head lights. You probably need to crank them down to the road. Your community will appreciate it too, as you are probably blinding them when they go by the other direction.
Have fun and good luck.

I know I need an alignment, but I have to get some rods replaced or something so i can get the alignment. Also, how do i "crank" the headlights?

I think by "crank" he means that they are not aligned properly. They maybe pointed towards the sky more than they should. Turn on the lights, park about 3 feet from a wall on level ground and note the center of the light on the wall. I think specs are about 3 feet from the ground.

It could also be that they just need to be replaced, or the wiring is old and not having a good connection to ground.
