hey all, i just recently bought a 1990 nissan 240sx that was ran hot and the previous owner believes it blew the headgasket. It is a coupe with some grey on grey two tone paint job with blue interior (not my cup of tea but ehh). it has a few other things needing to be fixed on it like, motor mounts (probably get done while replacing the head gasket), new struts and springs (probably some kind of lowering springs or coilovers), and for some reason the shifter seems to be tweaked a little bit. I tried to put the car in first and the center console was getting hit by the shifter when i shifted it over to put it up in first, i dont remeber my friends old hatch doing this? gotta see whats going on there. Well thats about it, I have been ding some research and I think i am going to be doing some bolt on mods while I saved up for a turbo kit (t-25/t-28, or t3/t4). Anyone have any tips or tricks for removing the head? I am most likely going to be tackling this either in my friend garage or at my apartment complex (if i can persuade them)?

the transmission mount could be seperated causing the transmission to be in the wrong spot.... however it usually tweaks over to the pax side..... broken mounts can facilitate this as well....... get a Nismo mount kit with all 3 mounts.

I've been very happy with my Megan Racing Springs and KYB AGX struts, the springs are about the stiffest for a spring/strut combo... they are 6k/4k

I got my setup off ebay for 400 bucks for everything!

for a couple cool little tricks.... you can find some ebay headers for about 120bucks shipped....... fairly cheap IMHO and u can always sell later on to someone if you go turbo..... you can take out the y pipe prior to the airfilter box to get a little more intake noise....... free mod..... also goto a junkyard and find an electrical fan to get rid of the clutch fan....... cheap mod... I got my fan for 15 bucks

gut your cat, maybe get a 3" catback if u plan to go turo. I wouldn't waiste too much more money on the engine at this point... just build up your turbo parts!

also I like ST swaybars, summitracing.com has them for 230 shipped for the pair with new bushings/endlinks... deal can't be beat

WITH REMOVAL OF THE HEAD I WOULD GET A NEW TIMING KIT! New oil pump.... new cam sproket, new crank sproket, new chain, new guide, new tensioner!!!!

most of that will come in the kit besides the oil pump, but they can be had cheap on ebay... it has to come out anyway to do the chain job, so midas well put a new one on... especially if u want to go turbo, I would also buy a lightweight crank pulley at the same time.... cause it has to come off too

what do you mean by "hot wire" the coil and fuel pump?

I was planning on getting a header and catback from ebay, which onces do you reccomend? there are "ebay brands", then there is the cheapest ebay generic I tend to go for the "ebay brands" xs power, auto grimm, obx, xtune, etc. etc. Also why do you say to replace all that stuff while i replace the head gasket? i can understand the guides maybe and the chain and water pump (omg a car that doesnt have a timing belt/chain driven belt ), but why a new oil pump and sprokets?

Compression Check Results1 = 602 = 1103 = 504 = 90

I am starting the process of removing the head tommorow

look for it. It's when you instal a relay in between the power wire. It give 12V straight to you coil or fuel pump

well i wasnt convinced that a blown headgasket was the culprit of the low compression. I proved that theory right today, 3 squirts of 5w20 (only stuff i had) in each cylinder brought the compression up to:1 = 1202 = 1503 = 1504 = 125Lets just say I was happy when it started, but then it died ...I am going to clean the plugs tommorow and see if that will fix it.
