hi, im new to this forum. I'm very interested in gettin a s13 body silvia with 13 sr20det. I have a couple of questions though. Whats the difference between the hatchback and coupe? does the hatchback have awd? and about the motors, i heard the red top ones are better than the black top ones. Is this true? thanks!!!

You should do a little bit of research first by searching this forum. But to answer the easy questions, the coupe basically has a different back of the car inside and out compared to the hatch back. No 240SX was ever AWD or 4WD, they have always been Rear wheel drive which makes them excellent drifting cars.

As for the engines, they each have strengths and weaknesses depending on what your final plans are for them. If you dont plan on modding the engine to make a 3-350 + hp then get an S14 or S15 engine, but if you want to put up really big numbers with less hassle then the S13 engine is better. Its also cheaper.:)

BTW this is a hatchback or fastback.

I dont know the exact weight differences but they should be nominal, they both weigh roughly 2700lbs without a driver and a full tank. Something around those lines depending also upon what engine you have in your car, the KA, CA, and SR all weigh different amounts.

What do you want to know about aftermarket bodykits?

any companies like blitz or signal auto that make a certain bodykit for the coupe rather than a hatchback. I just wanna know which one will have more aftermarket support than the other

I read that the coupe is about 50 lbs less than the hatchback and has a little added support behind the rear seats. Just FYI

There are tons of bodykits available. My suggestion for you would be to go down to garage SPL on lake city way in seattle and check out what they got. I never really liked Racing Concept. MPR is ok but i havent been there in awhile.

The S13 Silvia was the JDM Coupe. The JDM hatch was called the 180sx.

The coupe is a little lighter and has more rear support, but not enough to notice. It really depends on personal taste. I have a white '93 Coupe...the main reason I have a coupe over a hatch is I don't like the rear end of the hatch. Plus a lowered Silvia (coupe) with a nice body kit and 17"+ wheels looks oh-so-beautiful.

Yeah I agree. I like the coupe more but I couldn't find a desent one around here. They are both fun cars though.

If you're willing to make a drive, there's TONS of coupes here in Houston for sale - range from $800 - $5000.

I have the opposite problem - I love the lines of the hatch (smooth, sleek) but am having trouble finding one with a decently straight body and frame.

I don't even so much care about paint - it just has to run on the stock motor for about two months while I get the SR20DET in, pick up all the miscellaneous crap, get the wiring harness done, and prepare for the swap.
