I'm assume that AZ just does an OBDII scan, or is there a visual component as well?

First off, there is a list of SRs and a guide as to what you'll need to go from a GA16 to an SR20.

As for what's the "best," that's hard to answer. The Bluebird DET is the easiest to come by and cheapest, followed by the Avenir, then the GTi-R (excluding the VET since they're almost impossible to find). The GTi-R setup is more work, but also more power.

I'd suggest you pick up any one of those engines based on how much power you're looking for and what your budget is, bearing in mind that you can always up the boost or slap on a different turbo with bigger injectors, etc.

Get in touch with Jim Wolf Technology to look into fuel management. Sourcing a 95-98 SE-R ECU from a junkyard and having JWT tune it would be your best bet as far as emissions.

You may be out of luck then. If they are strict enough to fail you for not having a precat and EGR system, you're toast. If they're lenient on the rules then you may fair better.

For 2250 I'd stay away from a GTi-R swap and do a Bluebird or Avenir engine and some suspension/brakes/tires work. You could up the boost a bit on either of those and have 225whp.

The double post is unnecessary.

It's been covered before many times over, but there is a lot involved in swapping from the ga16 to an sr20. It can be done, and I have personally done the conversion before. Unless you have a couple thousand to throw at extra parts AFTER you buy an sr swap, have access to a good location/tools to do the swap, and have swapped/replaced engines and transmissions, wiring harnesses before... I would not recomend doing this yourself. At the very least you would be best off to have someone that knows what they are doing there with you. Lastly, being a '96, good luck with getting it to pass emissions with a det. It's possible - but not a for sure thing.
