Post

Hello, Ive been lurking for about a month or so here. I bought my first 240sx in the beginning of December for a grand total of $400! it runs and drives great. I haven't had an issue with it at all so far and I drive it every day.

I didn't know anything about 240's when I got this one, but I love these little cars now. It is really fun for being completely stock. I had a good time laying down tire marks in an empty parking lot

My goal with this is to try to have a ''Budget Project" to try to see how LITTLE I can spend on it and still fix it up while using it as a daily.

It didn't look so hot when i got it (well it still doesn't, but its a little better)

Of course like an idiot, I forgot to take pictures of it before I started working on it. But here are a few pictures of what it looks like as of about 10 min ago.

Keep in mind that when i got it the front pass. fender was crushed (I had to cut it off to replace it) and the pig nose that was on was zip tied together. I got the shark nose that's on it now for $10

I think the PO tried to drift and failed... rear pass quarter needs to be replaced. already did the front

When I got it, the hatch was rusty (the ONLY spot of rust that I could find so far, I might add) and it had no glass

Only thing that I have really done to it so far is built a cold air intake for it-

BEFORE-

AFTER-

I built it and painted it myself, (that's the color I will be painting the car once the body work is done) It cost a grand total of $62 to do the whole intake.

I don't have any pictures of the interior, but its not that great. its all there, but very very dirty. carpet needs replaced as well as the dash.

Let me know what you guys think, any ideas or suggestions would be great. But please keep negative comments to ones self, thank you.

I will continue to update this tread as work gets done.

lol I tried, but for some reason the MAF would refuse to function properly unless it was attached to the stock box. So i took the bottom off of the box, turned it to the side to get the biggest surface of air flow, and im putting a K&N in tomorrow

EDIT: i forgot to answer your question; it has 220K on the clock

yeah, i pulled a few of the big ones already. I plan on really starting with the body work in a couple weeks. so I'll see how it goes.

I did try that, but it wouldn't start

not quite sure if sarcasm was intended there. sorry if it bothers you the way i set it up, but it works and it runs and... o yeah, its not your car.

if you don't like it don't comment please, thank you.

not bad for the price, i like the custom intake, when i put my injen intake it wouldnt start, come to find out i didnt have the lil temp sensor thats on the OEM filter box connected so i just took the injen filter off, propped the lil sensor inside the the MAF coupler where the filter attaches and put the filter on, car started perfectly

Nice find man, 400 bucks is a good deal and damn! That intake looks great. I love it, care to share the steps you took to make it? I'd like to attempt something like that myself.

sure, it was really more of what i had laying around... the planning all happened as i went.

The main pipe, that traverses the radiator, is actually a 3'' intake from a 1990 Honda Accord that i found in a JY for $5

the two end pipes where from, a Civic intake. that was once a very long pipe that i cut in half and used as a CAI for a Mercedes I used to have, then cut in half again for this project

but all you really need are intake pipes that will fit. if you can, find a better pipe than i did, the less joints the better. joints can cause turbulence in the air. and the whole point of doing the intake is that, instead of the stock intake (smaller, plastic, and not at all smooth on the inside) you are going with a larger aluminum one, which SHOULD create a better air flow.

If done correctly, you should notice a slightly better throttle response, as well as slightly lower running temp (supposedly there will be a small increase in MPG, but when i get better response, i drive harder, there fore- i see no change in MPG)

i bought a valve making kit at pepboys to attach the factory vacuum tubing (i used gasket maker to seal it so there were no leaks.

as for the box-

take off the bottom half of the box and turn the top side ways to where the opening faces forward. as of right now (until i can find a better way) i have the filter held in place with zipties.

NOTE-i had to unplug the MAF to rotate the box, then re-navigate the plug to MAF's new position

As stated above, i used the stock air box like this because my car refused to run with out it, BUT, that being said; i have used a set up similar to this in a Porsche 944 and it worked very well.

its nice because its a large forward facing intake surface, just please please please dont skimp on the filter. i went K&N with mine.

if anyone as any other idea or suggestions, i would love to hear them. maybe i can improve my "intake on a dime'' project.

oh, and if you want to paint the intake, i suggest Duplicolor MetalCast. that stuff is great!

would you make a purple one for me? price?

Wait, why's the DOHC one cheaper than a SOHC? You don't have fair prices, sir! I want to speak to your customer service department.

Will this intake help with my drifting?

Or do i run a risk of damaging the motor by drifting with a purple tubed intake that sits the filter in the OEM spot?

does the blue paint reflect heat? cus your "cold air" design runs smartly OVER the rad area. would purple be better?

also, i will need a few zipties to hold my filter too. can you hook it up, homie?

i dont know if will help with drifting, but it shouldn't hurt, it deff gives you a better air surface on the filter than the stock set up. you don't HAVE to use the stock box with this set up, if you want to use a cone you can, you will just need an adapter plate for the MAF.

yes the intake does run over the rad, but do did the stock. but after a day of driving, the tubing is still cool to the touch, where as the rad is warm.

color of paint wont make a difference, so its what ever color you want.

Plenty of zipties will be included

UPDATEish

i got off work ridiculously early today, i was bored. Plus it was finally warm enough out side to get some work done. so i decided to start stripping the interior.

interior was a total mess. it was all there, but filthy. and blue. My plans are to change it over to black, so i decided to start tearing it all out!

During-

After-

try inflating different size basket balls and footballs in your rear QP and see if it pops anything out. That isn't bad compared to other QPs I've seen.

Nice find and great start for less a Grand so far.
