sure, it was really more of what i had laying around... the planning all happened as i went.
The main pipe, that traverses the radiator, is actually a 3'' intake from a 1990 Honda Accord that i found in a JY for $5
the two end pipes where from, a Civic intake. that was once a very long pipe that i cut in half and used as a CAI for a Mercedes I used to have, then cut in half again for this project
but all you really need are intake pipes that will fit. if you can, find a better pipe than i did, the less joints the better. joints can cause turbulence in the air. and the whole point of doing the intake is that, instead of the stock intake (smaller, plastic, and not at all smooth on the inside) you are going with a larger aluminum one, which SHOULD create a better air flow.
If done correctly, you should notice a slightly better throttle response, as well as slightly lower running temp (supposedly there will be a small increase in MPG, but when i get better response, i drive harder, there fore- i see no change in MPG)
i bought a valve making kit at pepboys to attach the factory vacuum tubing (i used gasket maker to seal it so there were no leaks.
as for the box-
take off the bottom half of the box and turn the top side ways to where the opening faces forward. as of right now (until i can find a better way) i have the filter held in place with zipties.
NOTE-i had to unplug the MAF to rotate the box, then re-navigate the plug to MAF's new position
As stated above, i used the stock air box like this because my car refused to run with out it, BUT, that being said; i have used a set up similar to this in a Porsche 944 and it worked very well.
its nice because its a large forward facing intake surface, just please please please dont skimp on the filter. i went K&N with mine.
if anyone as any other idea or suggestions, i would love to hear them. maybe i can improve my "intake on a dime'' project.
oh, and if you want to paint the intake, i suggest Duplicolor MetalCast. that stuff is great!
