I'm pretty much brand new to the 240 area but I have been bitten by the nissan bug I think. Here's the deal, I'm in the Air Force currently overseas. I come back to the states this winter and I want an car waiting for me. In my searches, I have discovered the 240sx. I am more than impressed with it in it's stock form, not to mention the incredible potental. Anyways, I can't decide if I should just try and find a 240sx that already has the SR20 swapped in or find a low priced 240 and have a shop swap in the SR for me. I found a shop by the name of xatracing.com in my searches the other day. Does anyone have any experience with them and if so what are you impressions? If not what do you suggest? I don't want the complications of someone doing a crappy swap and then having to redo the entire thing and cost me more money/time/hassle. Are there any conversion experts out there that you guys trust? Thanks for any help. Great forums boards by the way. I'm impressed with you expertise.

From all I've seen and heard, XAT is a quality shop.

But just FYI, despite what magazines, TV, and ricers tell you, you don't HAVE TO have the SR...

I know it's an option to keep the stock engine in it and I've looked into it. But I just feel to get the numbers that I would like, it would actually be cheaper to go with the swap. Especially when you have companies like XAT that are offering package deals. The turbo conversion alone for the KA is over 3500. Plus installation because I don't have the time or the resources to do it myself. And I love wrenching on vehicles, have been all my life. Will continue to do so. But something like this is beyond me. Does anyone suggest a mild cam for the SR? Does anyone do this? So far in my searches, it seems unheard of. And thanks for the opions guys.

Not to down the SR in any way, it's a fantastic engine, but it's the flavor-of-the-month in the media right now. There are plenty of other options. First of all, are you sure you even want a 240? You might want to think about test driving a couple. I know you said you want to have a car waiting when you get back, but do you really want to buy a car you've never driven? Not everyone likes the way they drive (not sure who, but I'm sure there's someone). Secondly, what are you building the car for? Do an SR's capabilities and limitations fit with your handling/performance goals?

I'm not trying to down your choice or insult your intelligence; it seems you've already done more research than most new-joins...just giving you some questions to think about.

Well, your right, in a way. I have never driven a 240 but from all the reviews I've read about the S14, which is what I'm looking for, say that it's one of the best buys out there as far as sports cars go. The light weight and front to rear weight ratio give it the drifting characteristics that many desire while the RWD and quick 5 spd transmission is what defines it as a sports car. The suspension is stiff and it has a wide stance for better handling. I'm mostly looking for a reliable car that is fun to work on and drive. I don't care if I can beat the snot out of other imports or domestics. All though it would be fun. And on a military budget it seems the most viable option. Plus it looks so damn good.....
