Ok I currently have an 03 S2000 and I am plannig to replace it with a 4 door sedan and buy myself a 240sx as a fun/project car.I like the 96 to 98 models ( i belive thats the S14).

My question is I am looking for a SR20DET or the skyline engine conversion for this vehicle. Since I am mechanically declined, I cant really do any work my self and I am gonna have to have a shop to do it for me. Now since I am gonna be changing the engine, does it matter that the 240sx that I am getting is manual or automatic? I am gonna get the vehicle from a dealer auction and auto 240sx's are easier to find than manual ones. So I was thinking if the engine swap is generally came with the transmission on it so it wouldent mater what the car originally has, or are there disadavantages to that?

Second question is how much does a conversion like that cost as far as wires, engine/transmission and labor. If somebody knows the swap cost for the Rb skyline engine that would be great to know.

And also anykey things that I might need to know ( I know how to buy the car since I am in the businnes) about the engine, or a certain model year for a specific advantage etc.. or websites for places who would be interested to do the swaps in SoCalifornia, would be nice to know.I appreciate all the help, thank you.

Nice to see another so cal memeber.

Here in so cal 97-98 5 speeds are hard to come by. But if you were to find one, get it, becuase many engine clips do not come with 5 speed trannies, and would cost an arm and a leg to get the 5 speed done with the engine swap.

Good choice of cars, just get the SR cuz the skyline is overrated and will cost more. And you can get an auto-to-manual conversion added on to the cost of when you pay the shop to do the swap which shouldn't run you too much more that $3500 installed.

So an sr20det conversion including the manual transmission, to an auto s14 240sx is about $3500 right? Hmm what about the Skyline engine, main reason that I want to do that is that I wanted a Skyline all my life ( who doesnt?) and if I cant get a skyline maybe I can own a skyline powered vehicle. There is a lot of braggin that I would do even thoguh performance figures wont justify the price tag on the conversion. However if its like $6000 then I probably wont do it, I aint that bad lol...

I am also plannig to run about 400 horses on this car, I know its more than what I need in order to drift and I probably need to change a lot of stuff on the car ( cansr20det handle 400hp with stock internals?) especially the differential and stuff... so in that case, can I just replace the turbo and the intercooler and start pushing mad power? I am sorry I kinda sound like those 18 year old kids that wants to squeeze out 1000 hp form their little civic but if I am gonna do this I wanted to be right.

a RB swap is gonna be really expensive since you arnt doing the work compared to a SR. Sr swaps are cheap is because everyone wants them and you can get a good deal on a SR easily. Just go with a SR it will be a lot cheaper and you can get the transmission swap with it but if the car is a automatic then there is going to be some custom fabrication on new pedals, and the stick shift . i would talk to what ever shop you are gonna use and get real number and not our educated guesses

If you go with an RB20DET, sorry but there isn't much braggin left to be done. It's become a very common swap.

Since you are obviously to lazy to search, I took it upon myself to do some *basic* searching for you. You can thank me later. All the links are in some way related to the stock internals of the SR, so hopefully it will give you a better idea.

Not as common as Turbo KA.
