Post

Hello everyone. I'm Knew hare. I juice got a nissan (gotta love that spell check) 89' 240 sx this past july for a hundred bucks. Its problem. It ran lousy. The guy was gonna sell it to a junk yard for the same price, so I got incredibly lucky. I just got done tearing the engine down to the block, and the chambers 3 and 4 are in bad shape. they are more oval shaped then cylidrical. What I need to know is this. what are my options as far as repair goes. Some pointers for having the block honed out, some measurements ( think the bore is 89 mm. Oh by the way its a ka24e) and best of all, how much I'm looking to spend. I found an engine rebuild kit that includes new pistons for $368 at importperformanceparts.net I know not to expect much from it. but I don't plan on shelling out the big bucks till I get the chassis in buns of steel shape. ( rigid that is ) All help and input is appricated.

-Even if you don''t know what your talking about. Say whats up. 240sxorty

How oval is it? What are the largest and smallest dimensions across the bores? Is it tapered too?

If you don't want to go through a swap to a DE (it is rather easy, but time consuming) simply go to a recycle yard and buy a running E. It may not be perfect, but for around 400-600 bucks, you could simply slip it in, and drive away. Easy and cheaper than a rebuild. Then, later on when you have built up some cash, swap in the DE or an SR. Or a 5.0, you know, whatever floats your boat.
