Please take photos of the process. We'd all love to see the process even if some of us couldn't do it ourselves.

I assume you are rebuilding a 5 speed, right?

My transmission has a tooth out in 5th gear so I only run 4. My only option is to swap it for a salvage yard transmission and hope for the best.

Even posting the removal and reinstallation process would be a great help.

Thanks in advance. :mike

why dont you just buy a new gear or an inner gear tooth that holds down the gear springs?? you can buy hard pieces. and yes mine is a 5 speed

I have no idea how to work on a transmission but a friend and I can probably swap the transmission for a guaranteed salvage transmission for under $100. That's why your rebuild thread would be so helpful. Right now I have oversized tires to give me 10% more speed so 4th gear doesn't whine so much on the highway and I still get 22mpg!!!!

Ok. You said you got the tools. Here's some pics of the repair tool kit you'll need.

All these were made at home by me as they were not available from the dealer and would have taken too long to arrive if they were ordered by the dealer.

These holes are set to accommodate the center section which holds the cluster of gears.

A lot of patience is needed with this repair as some of the parts are spring loaded.

If you watched the pics closely, you would have noticed the cluster gears are on different sides of the main shaft. That is because I altered the mounting plate with an additional hole to be able to bolt both top and bottom of the plate. :dblthumb:

Parts was a problem for me here in the Caribbean. Had to buy a used 4 speed to fix my 5 speed. Took me 3 weeks to find the right model box, then 2 days to assemble and another day to install and get the clutch to work properly. Bleed, bleed and bleed again. :)

man that's alot of gears and stuff, wish I was half as good at mechanical as I am electrical. I start reading about gaps, tolerances, and what nots and my brain just fuzzes over. I'm glad there are people out there that are good at it though.

Do you have a manual? its in there step by step. I'm writing it from memory so it will take some time but in a nut shell you have to remove the tail shaft housing, the front cover housing, the cir-clip, then pull out the cluster of gears. From here you will need two and three sprang pullers to get off the gears, inner and outer cir-clip pliers and the setup shown earlier the reinstall the gears. Not much torque specs here but clearances are critical. :dblthumb:

upload them to a website like photobucket.com then copy the image location and put it between [ img ] [/img ] no spaces, (seems just using this code is making it not visible in my post) but photobucket already does this for you if you click the link shown next to "image code" after scrolling over your pic in the album. Then you just gotta paste it here.

Not really other than it was a #$%^&*( to get out. and i had to take the shafts out twice cause you have to put them on the center at the same time.

OK, Awesome job there Bigman! You must really know what you are doing. Where did you get the parts you needed? Cost of parts? Did you use any type of instruction manual or do you just know your way around? Like I said before, I doubt I could do it, even with an instruction manual, but I gotta ask anyway.

When I did mine, I used the factory manual but had to improvise as the box was not original equipment. And yeah I also had to remove the shafts more than once to get it done. The manual has it straight forward.
