On the Y33's active suspension, the stiffness (or damping) of the shock absorbers is varied by sending an electrical current to each shock. Normally, this stiffness is controlled automatically, depending on driving conditions. However, a dashboard-mounted switch allows the shocks to be stiffened manually, by selecting the "Sport" switch position.

Due to the extra complexity, these systems tend to be more prone to problems (which explains why some folks wish their cars had conventional suspension instead).
The only major disadvantage to the electrical active syspension system on the later Y33 models is that the special shocks are considerably more expensive to replace than conventional shocks (and are apparently only available from Nissan). Also, the Y33 active syspension is generally regarded to provide inferior performance to the earlier G50 system.
