Whats goin on guys, I'm new here. Just got rid of my SRT-4 (sick of the payments and FWD) want something a bit more capable, RWD, turbo, and lots of aftermarket goodness.

So in the next week or 2, im going to be buying a 91-94 240.I love me some boost, so I'm def going to turbo it (eventually.) I want it to be a reliable car though, so initially when i get the car I'm going to have the engine rebuilt. I have tried searching the forums, and searching google but cant find an answer to my question.

when i get the engine rebuilt, im going to buy forged pistons, rods, valve springs and retainers, a clutch, and just have everything else built to OEM standards. When i do turbo it, i only want to hit about 350whp and im gonna call it good.Do you think thats a solid plan? Or do you think im missing something?

(yes i understand i need to upgrade brakes and suspension etc etc, i will address those soon after my engine is running properly)

Your plans fine. If your going through all that trouble, i mean this might sound kinda obvious.. but replace the follow.

The WHOLE lower timing cover(oil pump, replacing the gears is pointless) - $220T-Stat EVERY seal in the motorTiming chain

Do NOT piss your cash away on anything but OEM parts for this stuff. Its just not worth the risk. I cant stress this enough for the T-stat, seals, and the timing chain. Do not go aftermarket.

Make sure you get a clutch capable of handling the power you plan to make.

Ahh ya i forgot to mention i plan on doing the timing chain, and seals and gaskets are a given.Everything aside from the pistons, rods, valve springs/retainers will be oem (internally atleast)

I was looking at clutches awhile ago, nothing seems to handle more than 320ft/lb of torque? from what i have been reading, if your putting down 300-350whp, your going to be making massive torque? any clutch recommendations?

also, i was looking at the aftermarket oil pans, is it really worth the extra $3XX?I know some cars are fine with stock, SRT was fine, just had to remove balancer shaft.

There are plenty of clutch options for 350 torque and more, plenty. Just keep searching.

For recommendations? Crap man, i hate making clutch recommendations cuz i dont have much experience with different clutches. I personally love my Spec stage 3+, but a few people have had problems with sprung Spec clutches.. unspringing..... (KO clutch/FW) Apart from them, i might look into Competition Clutches, i have heard nothing but good things about them although they are relatively new to the automotive scene. MADE IN USA BABY!

Your not going to be putting down 'massive' amounts of torque, but between 3-4k rpms the Ka freaken puts down some torque. There arnt that many ka-t builds that have a higher peak torque than peak HP, but they are out there.

As far as aftermarket oil pans go, id steer clear. Excessive makes a pretty damn nice one(UPPER pan, then you need to buy an aftermarket or stock SR sump), but after you add in all the other costs your looking at nearly 1000 dollars. Personally i would much rather spend that money on an oil accumulator setup, as im actually doing with my own build.. Much better than a custom oil pan in every way.

the rb20/350z clutch setup is kinda expensive but, would have no problems holding the power. For a cheaper version of that setup try the white bunny special setup with a aftermarket clutch such as an act.

Here is some info on the white bunny setup:

ahh ok, ya i saw on some post they did a comparison of the SR20 and the KA24 with similar sized turbos, sr had more hp with less tq, and ka had more tq with less hp. plus i keep hearing "mod for mod the ka will make more torque" so i just assumed.

i appreciate the input. now i just gotta find a 240, the dude i was gonna buy one from fell through =/

Welcome to NICO

As far as clutches go, I'd use SPEC. I have had SPEC units on every manual I've owned. I have a stg4 6 puck single disk on my S14, basically stock pedal feel. I was impressed. I drive in some serious traffic, or did atleast...so an easy clutch was a must. But I planned on making 400+ whp...so I needed something that would hold a metric ton of torque. SPEC has NEVER let me down.

When you build the motor, use a thick copper headgasket to drop the compression down a bit. You'll make more power since you can run more boost safely on any given octane.

Friggin congrats on dumping the SRT4

Ya I was looking at spec clutches, the sites I was looking at though didn't say what the kits come with? I know the clutchmaster kit comes with everything I'd need (I think)

2 quick questions, sr20 intercooler kits, would those work on the ka? I'm guessing noAnd the heads up display gauge cluster, if that was to replace the standard cluster is there any additional wiring? Or is I'd plug and play?

I will tell you my Clutchmasters clutch experience . I have a clutchmasters stage 3(fx300) in my '96 240sx ka24det. I broke it in properly for 600 miles. The first time at the track I could smell clutch at the end of the track. I was running 7psi and I had it dyno'd at 236RWHP 250TQ. The clutch says it handels 300ft. lbs. tq....... I would go with SPEC, thats what I'm getting for my next clutch.

bummer man.everyone seems to have a lot of good things to say about spec.

i might be getting my 240 this weekend! pretty stocked . engine and transmission is out of it, but im pretty sure with the right tools, a few friends, i can get it back in there and drive it around until i have money to buy all the internals and have money for the labor.

its a motorset, anythings i should look for/buy ahead of time before i try and get it in?
