New headunit

My bose head unit has been crapping out on me lately, sometimes it will say err and won't play the cd and the display will come on and off, it's off more then it is on. i have a connection at best buy that can get me a headunit on the cheap but i remember reading i have to get something to run a new headunit with my speakers, i can't remember what it was and i can't find the thread. could somebody tell me what i would need to get if i were to get a new headunit and possibly subs. thanks as always. o yea it's for a 96.

UPDATE: allright so i was looking through the audio thread and found the PAC ROEM thing but the link is dead. what exactly is it, do i need it and what does it do, sorry for all the questions, i know nothing about car audio and im having a hard time learning about it.

Matt's the one to ask about this stuff.

Bose systems have odd EQ settings. I know that many people end up gutting the entire system in order to get around that. But there's also a device out there that'll "de-EQ" the system so that you can use a regular headunit with it. There are also devices that enable you to use an aftermarket Bose system.

Unfortunately I can't remember what either is called. Hopefully someone else will chime in...
