I have already searched the forums for help and I found some but it contradicted itself. I have a '91 240sx. I am not getting any power to the head so I disconnected i and I am planning on getting up tomorrow to re-do it. One I read said this:

Radio 12v red/black Radio Ignition blue + Radio Illumination red/blue + Factory Amp Turn-on Power Antenna black/red + LF Speaker +/- brn/wht - brown RF Speaker +/- blu/wht - blu/yel LR Speaker +/- blue - pink RR Speaker +/- red – green

Another one said this:10 pin connector:yel - pwr to auxblk - gndorn/wht - Illuminationblu - pwr antennagry - frt sp R+gry/blk - frt sp R-wht - frt sp L+wht/blk - frt sp L-orn - 5 pin connector:grn - rear sp L+grn/blk - rear sp L-vio - rear sp R+vio/blk - rear sp R-blu/wht -

It was missing some things but I cannot figure anything out for the life of me.

Oh. BTW I have something to add to a Things Found In a Used Car forum if anyone wants to start one. I found 3 Coke baggies and then a rehab center regulations packet. Wierd.

I have checked online too. All of them tell me that there is no power antenna and has a few wires labeled wrong too. I am stressing.

This should probably be in the audio forum....

in any case... are these wires from a harness adapter or did you cut the factory harness to wire in directly? The first set of wire colors (I'm assuming) are the factory harness colors... the second set of wire colors are the industry standard colors used on harness adapters.

we would need to know what you're using to give you any help...

though, if you've cut the factory harness then 1. don't ever do that again... and 2. you should be looking at a Factory Service Manual to figure out the wiring.

In general for power problems I typically recommend that you ground the stereo to a chassis ground as opposed to whatever ground is provided on the harness... There should be plenty of bolts around the shifter that you can run the ground to.

The previous owner had all kinds of aftermarket wiring done and really messed stuff up so the harness was cut. I rewired everything and got the head unit to work but now my dash doesn't light up. Does anyone know what I should hook up the illumination wires to to get the dash lights to work again?

Try checking the orange wire, if you forgot to connect it and stuff. That's what controls the dimmer and if there is an open it will always be all the way dim.

Sorry if in stealing this topic...

But i was thinking about cutting my factory harness and just splicing in an old radio i have. Yeah its an old tape deck, im just trying not to spend too much money on the car yet..

Is this bad, if i cut the harness? Cut the harness strip the wires, connect them, and put them in caps (those orange things)...

I was just wondering what you guys thought of this??
