I'm looking at pulling the stereo in this car i just picked up and building up a system. my question involves the active speaker system. i see what looks like an amp under the rear deck and am wondering if it is easier to just replace the wiring for the speakers or to splice the wires at this amp. also ha any body bought or heard of these adapter plates that are on ebay to replace the stock speakers with 6.5's. they are made with 1/4" PVC do they work well? any other tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm eventually going to have 6.5's up front, 6x9 rears and if I can save up the money Boston G5 12inch sub (right now I'm going to have to use my Infinity 1230 reference subs)

With an 89 model, I would highly suggest replacing all the wiring with something in a larger diameter. This will also save you time troubleshooting issues with the existing wiring once you install everything.

1/4" PVC plates would probably work just fine.
