new head unit and speakers.. what to do?

I have a '91 240sx coupe. I'm 99% sure it has factory amps in the car.. so my question is... should i bother using them? I've had some people tell me that the factory amps are worthless. I'm putting my head unit and new door speakers at the same time. How would i bypass the factory amps? Sorry if the questions are stupid, but i don't know much about audio. :help
