Hello all,

Would like to formally introduce myself and my 86 N/A a little later but I need a quick and simple question answered about what type of oil to use. I have 140k on the odometer. Do I need a "high mileage" synthetic? blend? normal? Also, what weight? I live in Ohio and don't drive it in the winter time (except on rare warmer days.) Would 10W40 be fine to run in it?

Thanks, and looking forward to hearing all your wisdom!!!

Manual calls for 10w30 IIRC. 10w40 is fine, just a bit thicker. No need for synthetic or high mileage unless you just want to. the high milage stuff is supposed to have additives to help with aging internal seals, I can't speak to how effective it actually is but it isn't necessary. Synthetic offers slightly less internal friction, I always run full synthetic in any car I race otherwise the dinosaur stuff is just fine.

Hey evildky....thanks for the info and "hello" neighbor! I'm right up the road from you in Cincy. I know there is a big 300ZX show that happens out west but anything like that in our neck of the woods??

Another question...I bought a poly air dam that doesn't fit my '86. Even though everyone advertised it as fitting the 84-86 models, the '86's come with '87 fenders and I found this out the hard way. I had it painted with the matching factory 526 Hot Red but didn't "try it on" first so the company wouldn't take it back. I ended up buying the fiberglass air dam from Kaminari but now I'm stuck with the other one and looking to sell. Do you think it would be better to put the word out here in the Z31 forum or would I get more exposure by listing it in the "Marketplace?"

I also got a kaminari front air dam lol it had to be grinded down to get that tight fit. I sold my xenon urethane air dam through craigslist. I had it up for 30mins and got a seller out of town to pick it up quick.

For selling your spare bits I'm a fan of free internet advertising, here, CL other sites whatever, free exposure doesn't cost you anything ;)

On the shows, I assume you are referring to the west coast nationals on Orange CA? I actually attended that one in 2012. "Z Dayz" at tail of the dragon is coming up in mid May. Branson Z Fest is at the end of May. Midwest Z heritage show travels and is in chicago area this year mid June. The ZCCA National convention is in Memphis this year, mid July (I'm gonna try and make this one). In the fall Z1 has what they call "Z Nationals" it's really centered on Z32 and newer models, they accept older cars but don't expect many, or much attention. Normally the MTZCCA hosts Z Attack in april but it doesn't appear to be happening this year? You might also find some local shows. The ohio ZCCA chapter has had some issues in years past but used to put on some good sized local events, so did INDY. My local Bluegrass z car club hasn't hosted a show in several years now.
