Hey Guys,

Just looking for some input here. How efficient is the stock air intake and exhaust on a 2006 g35 coupe? And do these cars have a trans cooler or is it built in with the radiator ?

Stock intake tube is designed for being queit, tube from a 350Z helps. Or an intake kit.

Never looked at mine too much while under it, but would assume it, like most AT Nissans have the transmission cooler intergrated with the rad.

I don't have time right now to search around, but feel free to browse the FSM to find some clear answers:

Welcome Rich! I was in the AF for 9 years, thanks for your service!!

With a 6MT, the stock intake on 05-06 coupes can be improved upon...I'd highly recommend the MREV2 lower plenum and plenum spacer. If you have an AUTO, then the MREV2 lower plenum is not needed. Then with a CAI (like R2C or Stillen) you will gain some decent power! Finish it off with a CAT-Back exhaust and you'll have around 20-30RWHP...more with a tune.

Thanks guys. Is the stock exhaust restrictive? What gives it the sound?

It is a bit restrictive, the muffler is the main thing in the sound. Can get high flow cats to open it some and keep the sound. Also the 350z Nismo exhaust would open it up with the same basic sound (but hard to find those cheap/good condition). To me most aftermarket exhausts don't keep the deep tone.

Like the other guys said, pick up an intake tube from a 350z (any year) and you'll have pretty much all the performance of a cold air intake, a K&N high flow filter will help as well. Even with the stock intake the plenum is a major factory defect, pick up a 5/16" plenum spacer and you'll pick up some decent gains. Replacing the cat back exhaust is very expensive, if you're looking to free up a few ponies swap in some high flow cats or test pipes instead of the stock cats and you'll notice a big bump in performance.
the next step would be a uprev osiris tune, if you're interested in one of these and saving some money PM me ;) my buddy owns a protuner shop and I can get hookups on some stuff
