Hey Everyone,

I'm fairly new, I recently got a 96 Pathy 2wd for daily duty and I have a few questions. Im getting some strong vibration in the steering wheel between 50-65MPH. Im not sure if it's the "death sway" or not as the car doesn't seem to really be moving from side to side as some indicate with the death sway. The steering wheel shake is especially bad when I am on rough roads or something.

Also, my transmission seems to be shifting kind of hard. I can't really tell if it's slipping or not. Every car I have owned previously has been manual so I am kind of clueless on automatics. It does seem to have a little bit of lag when shifting between gears at WOT. When not at WOT, it shifts pretty hard. Im not sure if motor mounts are to blame or not. Im just looking for some wisdom from you all. Having owned an Evo, S2000, WRX, and R32, I realize how much of a resource forums (and forum members) can be. If you could can offer any help, i would appreciate it.

Thanks,

JD

I just recently posted about something similar to this with vibrating at high speeds here and in other forum. I'm going to the dealer to check out my drive shaft and u-joints. Not sure if that helps but may steer you in a direction.

How many miles on it?Do you know the history of the vehicle?I had that steering wheel shake when hitting a bump recently, and replaced my struts and shocks. Problem solved. Also check your wheel bearings for excessive play, the ball joints, plus tire balance. All the usual stuff.

I have no info on the history of the truck. It's got 179K miles on it so Im anticipating some things needing to be replaced.
