Whats up guys? New guy here. My name is Austin, i'm 20 years old and from Kansas. Currently in college for engineering. I've been lurking here for a while now, just now decided to join though. I've had quite a few vehicles (10+, long story) already so far in 4 years of driving, but I think i've finally found one that i'm happy with in my 2006 Infiniti M35.

I got the car in early May. It was a one owner (female doctor) and was in outstanding condition. I think the only options its missing are the rear seat options. Oddly enough it still had the original (almost 10 year old) tires on it. They were cracking and one was bubbling so I quickly changed them. I ended up finding a relatively new set of cheaper tires on craigslist for $100 and decided to go for it for now since I didnt have much money after buying and registering the car. I HATE them!! They're nexen n3000's and from 20-40 ish mph (as one forum member said) it sounds like a jet is taking off inside.

Those tires are one of the main reasons I decided to join, I really want some tire advice. I want to get a new set of wheels when I get tires too so that will factor into it as well. I'll probably take the wheel and tire talk to my specific forum, but I just wanted to introduce myself first. Advice on tires is welcome here too  I look forward to meeting the people here and learning as much as I can about our vehicles!

Welcome aboard!
You type well, and that's half the battle now a days. I'm sure you'll have no problems getting answers to any of your questions. You should definitely post pictures of the M.

Are you looking for all season or summer tires? Also, what size?
I might sound like a Conti salesman here, but a good, cheap summer tire is the Continental ExtremeContact DW. A good all season is the same Continental ExtremeContact, but DWS.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I will definitely post some pictures of it soon too! I was going to in the original post, but I didnt have any pictures saved on my phone.

As far as tires, I'm looking for all seasons. I wont be driving the car that hard so my main concern is just quietness and overall smoothness. Basically, I just want a comfortable everyday tire. This car is just a comfortable daily driver for me, I have a second car that my dad and I have worked on for a few years that is the fun/weekend car so I want this car to just be a cruiser. Also, with the winters we (sometimes) get in kansas, I wouldn't want a summer tire.

I want to get a set of aftermarket wheels (still deciding on size, width, everything really - so much goes into it i'm finding out  ) so that will depend on the tires. The main 2 options for me are either 18x9.5 with probably a 245 tire(?), or a 20x10 +40mm all the way around with a 275 tire. From the sounds of it that should fit. My main goal with the wheels is to get a nice concave set of wheels to make it a bit more agressive looking. I also want to do a square setup so I can rotate them.

I actually had a new set of continental DWS's on my GTO and they were great on that. The car was so loud that I couldn't actually tell you if the tires were quiet or not though :chuckle:, and I sold the car after only a few thousand miles on the tires . I thought I read a few times that the DWS gets pretty loud after 5000-ish miles, is that true? My main tire interests are Michelin Primacy MXV4 and Continental DWS. I'm open to other ideas too of course! My goal for tires is quietness/comfort, while still remaining decently grippy. I just dont want too hard of a sidewall or too aggresive of a tread pattern - I heard those can get noisy.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to fully explain it so you understand where i'm coming from. I really would appreciate any help!! :bigthumb:

Thanks

If you're not on a tight budget, no one makes a better tire than Michelin. They often have the lowest noise over the life of the tire, maintain their grip, last a good while, and are the best balanced tire (first and second order vibrations).

Interesting, did not know that about them. I'll have to look into them some! :bigthumb: I've got some money saved up to spend on a good set of tires, but I don't think I want to spend much more than $1000, if that. Hopefully the michelins wont be that much. I saw DWS's were going for $800/set which isnt too bad!

Here's some pictures of it, hopefully they worked!

It has this "Mirrored" type tint on the windows that I actually really like. All you see is yourself when you look at it

Thanks guys!

Oddly enough the only thing that looks like it has been touched is the start/stop button. The letters have faded off a lot. I've thought about trying to replace it maybe, but I dont know how much it would be, and its probably not worth the hassle.

How long does it take to be able to use private messages here? There's one guy I really want to send one to because he's had 3 sets of one of the tires i'm interested in and I want to ask him about them, but I can't yet!

Love the M but let's talk about all the Vettes in the driveway. :) Is one of those the weekend fun car? And what year is the blue one on the street?

Haha thanks. Yes! The red one in the garage is my weekend car. Its a 1990 ZR-1 that me and my dad have slowly been working on for about 2 years now. Literally everything has been gone through and either fixed or replaced. We even stripped off all of the body parts, sanded off all of the paint, and did a lot of sanding and bodywork to smooth out some of the dents and then repainted the whole car. It's all back together and running really strong now. Should be around 425-450 hp. With the 4.10 gears it can move. It surprises a lot of new cars haha. It definitely has some issues still though, mainly the AC. That's why i'm excited for it to cool down soon so I can start driving it again some.

The blue one in the street is a 1971 LT1 Stingray. Fully restored, and has been judged multiple times. I think it has 2 of the 3 crowns for judging. It's clean, but I'm always nervous around it because I don't want to mess anything up.

The license plate on the Vette is very creative.

I'm guessing that was a joke... yea my dad likes plates that say what a car is for some reason. I don't care for them. I either like funny ones or just the regular plate. I'll have to post a picture of the plate I put on my GTO

Funny you should mention that though, we got new plates in the mail thursday for all of our custom tag vehicles, and now they are all just regular tags! Kansas changed the look of their custom tags so they sent out regular ones to all custom tag owners and now they want them to pay for the new ones again... My dad doesnt like the look so they will all be regular plates now. I prefer the regular plate anyway, I dont like the extra attention of the bright orange custom ones

Dug around and found a few photos of my old GTO and it's license plate. It was perfect next to the "6.0" badge :chuckle:

And probably my favorite photo of it...

:rotfl I love the plates on those two. I've always loved the look of the GTOs. When they are 150k miles and cheap I might pick one up to thrash for a summer.

I was joking about the C6 plates. I've never liked when it's just chassis codes or something. Even I'm not that uncreative lol.

That sounds like some s*** NY would pull. People need to watch their government more closely.

I'm also still not over the loss of my Liberty Plates from NY. RIP.

Haha thanks. I always caught people taking pictures of the back of it when I looked in the rear view mirror at lights haha.

Yea I figured on the plates lol. Thankfully with the new plates, my dad doesnt like the look so we wont be getting the custom ones anymore. Im pretty happy about that! People looked at the engine code on the plate weird.

Oh yea the Liberty plates are nice! What did they change it to?
