Actually, the Eclipse/Talon/Laser were designed by Chrysler and Mitsubishi, and only sold for the American market. There were never sold over here in Japan, only imported. The 2G E/T's are worth decent money over here in regards to their U.S. Price.
No joke...when I first moved over here and was looking to purchase my first car, one lot I stopped at had a bone stock 96 Eclipse GS. Non turbo, automatic trans, and 420A engine. Car had over 80,000 miles on the clock. Price was 1.7million yen, which at that time was about $15.5k US. This was in 2004, so that car would have only been 8 years old.
I've also never seen a Talon or Laser over here. All imports I have ever seen were all Eclipses...mostly 2nd Gens. I have only seen 1 1st gen Eclipse and it was also a GS, but it was an owner car, not for sale.
