Hello everyone,

I will be checking this portion of the forums more often now with the recent purchase of my new DD. Its a gold with tan interior 1995 J30 w/ 120k miles. While the car is new to me, the engine is not. I've owned a Z32 300ZX for nearly 4 years now.

I just got the 120k service done on it and will be getting a trans flush as soon as I save up some extra dough, since it seems to be slipping and kicking into 2nd. Are there special precautions to be taken for the flush or can this be done by your typical shop?

I figured I could get away with asking a few questions if I just toss them in with my intro...but yes I do know how to search. Here they are:

1.) My car's check engine light has just started coming on intermittently, specially at highway speeds. The car shut off on me today but started right back up and ran fine the rest of the way home. I checked the connections to the PTU, CAS and MAF and they are fine. Fuses are fine too. I want to run ECU (or ECM w/e) codes, but I have no idea where it is at or how to get to it.

3.) Brake pads. Just got new rotors and I want a little more bite from my brakes. I'm wondering if there are any performance pads compatible with the J30, and if they are worth buying.

2.) What are the chances of getting the original key for my car? I think the previous owner gave me a set of duplicate valet keys since they both cant open the lock on the trunk.

3.) Didnt the J30s come with keyless entry? How could I go about getting a keyless unit and programming it for my car?

4.) My antenna is completely dead. Right now it is fully extended and will not even make a noise when the radio is turned off etc. Is there a writup on how to diagnose, repair/replace it?

5.) Weatherstripping for the drivers door and the sunroof is on its way out. What are my choices for replacement? and how much will it run?

I hope I dont get flamed!Thanks alot,Gonz

Welcome! Wish I could answer your questions though. transmission flush seems like it would be easily done by most shops, or it might even be something that you could do if you want to get your hands dirty. Check out the factory service manual.

Check engine coming on at highway speeds sounds like a clogged EGR tube.Thats what Mine did,, right around 55 it would come on .Easy fix ,, On mine anyways

Welcome to NICO!!!

As for brakes, stick to OEM Nissan rotors. Cerramic or semi-ceramic pads for the J improve performance (i.e. EBC, Thermoquiet, Akebono, Jetstop etc).

Also what type of fuel are you running? my sister ran 87 in it for a month and it did the same thing wiht the check engine light and it actually shut off as well once. BUt i think the problem is more likely the EGR tube like yoda said. good luck
