well, after waiting a long time i finally got a 240. i bought a 90 grey 5 speed hatch with 207,xxx miles on the clock. the only major question i have is that my car is rusting kinda bad. around the windshield and the passenger rear quarter are the worst. i'm wondering is the car worth fixing? it runs great and only smokes a little on start up. what would you guys recomend for fixing the rust? also, it needs motor mounts really bad and for some reason the previous owner decided to take the power steering pump off. anyways, any idea where i can get those parts besides a dealer? i don't want to dump a whole lot of money in this thing if the rust is beyond fixing. any pther spots in particular i should look fo r rust in? any help would be great. thanks in advance.

the rust issue is something i'm not sure can be fixed. the only thing i can think of is to sand off as much of the rust as possible then seal it until you can get it to a paint shop. I would recommend taking her to a body shop and getting their response on what to do about the rust issue. the power steering pump can be easily obtained by posting in the b/s/t forums or going to a local junkyard and grabbing one off a parted 240

if the rust is real bad then you might jsut want to drive it till it falls apart on you and put the bare minimum into it. I definately agree with tenkawa, take it to a shop and have them give you an estimate or let you know if its worth repairing.

My opinion is 240's are almost always worth saving, buthat does kinda depend on how much you spent on it. I bought a 93 qith certain problems fixed them and sold it, but in your case as long as it's surface rust your ok. If the rust is beginning to wear away and not just form on the surface your going to have serious problems, if you're not looking to save it then i would reccomend driving it til it dies, but if you want to keep this car take it toa body shop.

yeah, i wouldn't take it to a body shop though. i would just weld new sheet metal in myself. the only part that kinda worries me is around the windshield. it's not rotted but it's not just surface rust. i dunno, i'm thinking of fixing it but it depends on how much money i have. i agree though, i think any 240 is worth saving. :D

the window deal is gonna be a hard one to fix if the rust is deep. go to a junkyard, try to find a parted out 240 that hasn't a lot of rust on the window and ask to have the a pillars. remove your window (no small feat i'm sure) and reweld the new a pillars on.

I have a russian friend that will do any kind of body work, and make anything happen. Get two cars, one crushed in front, on in the rear, and he'll put them together and have it looking exactly like a new car. It'll allign perfectly and will be to spec too.

i think that's a little more than i want to put into it. just out of curiosity, how much would something like that cost?
