I just bought my fourth 720 last week and haven't had the chance to really look at it, but im sure the fuel pump is shot, it has the block mounted mechanical pump, what I'm wondering is if there is a pump by the tank also? i tried to start it and i check to see if the fuel line is plugged or whatnot, there was gas right up to the fuel filter almost to the pump, but when I crank it over it wont suck fuel, I pulled the inlet line off and cranked it and it sucks, anybody have any ideas? Maybe switch to electric pump?

are you sure that the Mechanical Fuel pump is working right?

You should be able to take off the valve cover and make sure the actuating arm isn't messed up or broken and the diaphragm is working.

I don't think they have another pump but I don't know/remember. I wouldn't see the point of having two for a stock 720. I have casting marks for Mechanical fuel pump on my z24 and ka24 blocks but its just empty space that my PS pump takes up.

I wouldn't ditch the mech pump(I think they are neat) but electric pumps are pretty standard and easy to put on anything. Just know you have a hole in your head currently filled with a mech pump.

There is wiring on the side of the carb for the electric choke, but my truck doesnt have any hookups on the harness for it.
And i havent really checked to see if the pump is working right, Ill check it out on tuesday and update on here, I will also post some pics of my $50 datsun!!

For the electric choke, just tie it into a hot-when-running circuit.

Best stuff I've found to get the junk out of a tank is KBS Aqua Klean from http://www.kbs-coatings.com It'll loosen up just about anything and you'll see all kinds of junk coming out of the tank... even if it looked fairly clean to start with. Just mix the stuff with water as per instructions, let it sit a while, slosh it around etc, pour it out, rinse, and you got a clean tank.
