Hello all. Absolutely new to this platform, but I just had this car fall into my lap. It's rough, it's been abused, but it's got some good features to her.

It's a '93 240SX 5-speed, non-hatchback. It's been hit in the rear driver's quarter panel, it needs injectors desperately, and a lot of TLC. The driver's side automatic seatbelt doesn't move, just clunks, passenger window doesn't roll down, passenger mirror is missing the mirror(lol) and it desperately...desperately needs a cleaning. But the transmission shifts GREAT, doesn't slip or clunk, engine is the KA24DE which is nice and appears to be a recent addition because it's way too clean to have 217,000 miles on it and doesn't knock or smoke, suspension isn't horrible...car has potential. I don't admittedly have grand plans for it, the plan is simple so far. Get some injectors in it, change the fuel filter, check out the fuel pump and make sure that's good, basic maintenance stuff to make it purr like a kitten, and then we'll go from there. :bigthumb:

But yeah. She's a diamond in the rough, or at least a sapphire or something.

My previous experience with cars are DSMs. Like...honestly, DSMs since I was like 12-14 years old. Had a metric ton of them, and I still have one now. But I have always been curious about the 240's. Looking forward to doing a lot of research, and maybe buying some parts that I will definitely need! Good to be here and in the "world" again. For too long was I stuck driving my 2013 Chrysler 200 and having no fun car. ;)

Looks like you grabbed a good starter car. Welcome to the Nissan realm!

The mirror portion of the outside mirrors is a dealer stocked item. It is held in place on the actuators by foam adhesive pads [part of the replacement] and is easily installed .

Awesome. I was actually just reading up on that. The mirror itself is in great shape, just need the mirror.

Also, popped in some new injectors and she purrs like a kitten now. There seems to be some sluggishness up top, and it seems to struggle to get up minor hills...BUT, it had all of 150hp brand new...so I'm just guessing this is normal. I'm still gonna check the timing and such on it though, just in case. Probably do a compression check as well when I do all new plugs, wires, and fuel filter.

Man these cars are fun to drive even in bone-stock form! I dare say more fun to drive than a stock DSM.

Oh, and did I mention I got this car for free?

Free.50 is pretty darn good :)

The seatbelts should be covered under a lifetime warranty.

If as you say "The mirror is in good shape" but you need to replace the mirror" ? Are you confused as to the outside mirror housing and the reflector portion ? It's a relatively big deal to replace the outside rear view complete mirror assembly, but a snap to re-apply the glass reflector part with its foam attach tabs. Don't make a big deal out of a simple pull and replace a minor sub assembly !

I always thought replacing the entire assembly was pretty easy too. Just pop out the little plastic doomaflatchy thing by the A-pillar, undo the 3 bolts, and the whole thing drops out. There's an electrical connection if the mirror is electric.

Electric or manual, the actual mirror reflective unit is the same and more likely to be in dealer [or central distributor warehouse] that the complete outside mirror assembly. Go for the simplest solution .

I meant the reflective part, not the housing. At first I thought the entire housing needed to be replaced until I researched here and found out you're supposed to just replace the reflector.

Can I just say how much I appreciate how easy these cars are to work on? DSM's aren't exactly hard but a lot of it just doesn't make sense.

Can I also say that Nissan engineers decided to make these fuel rails out of what amounts to aluminum foil. I bent mine today without even trying. Lol. Oops. Got another NOS one on the way now thank God but now I've learned a valuable lesson about pulling on stuff unless I know for 100% fact it's 100% disconnected. :P

Also, that warranty thing is amazing! First thing I'm gonna do when the car is up to snuff is take it to my local Nissan dealer. Thankfully there's a gigantic one who is obsessed with customer service, right near me. Gotta love Nissan.

Meanwhile mitsubishi/chrysler built a vehicle where the crank will eat into the mains, and they're like "seems good to me, no warranty for you bruh". :chuckle:

Thats about where the pleasantries stop when it comes to Nissan. Most dealers still try to fight the lifetime warranty on the seatbelts. Sometimes it’ll be months before they finally agree to fix it.
