Hidy yall

New feller here thinking bout getting a 240SX. Best friend's pappy bought a early 90s I'm guessing 240SX for cheap. Cat stopped up and when it did it blew a whole in the manifold and the EGR valve died. Also think now the mass air flow sensor is acting up. Cars has I believe 162k on it but still runs/drives like a dream other than the little things mentioned above. I'm looking for a cheap car to drive back and forth to work in a few months and think this car would suit my needs well. Never been messed with, completely stock. Reason I'm posting is I would like to know of any problems with the cars, big recalls, how many miles the motor will last. About how much would this car be worth also. If the motor did unwind, what kind of problems would we be looking at to rebuild it. Approx. how much $$ to rebuild it? Just want a good realiable, more efficent vechile other than my big 4wd truck that gets bout 11mpg So help a brother out! Thanks a lot

umm...biggest problem from them was the timing chain guides...Nissan decided to use plastic ones that like to break and cause the chain to grind on the wall I believe.

other then that...no real issues with them. I think there might be some guys on here with 300k on them.

91 240sx, 165K+, still going strong. Perfect, equal compression on all cylinders. Just a slight hint of chain rattle. Treat her good, and she'll return the favor.

Thanks for the welcomes and advice. The car I'm looking at runs and drives like new. As far as I know everything works. I'll pop up these questions real quick.

He said there is a hole in the manifold,if there really is,can I get a replacement from local parts house or is that a Nissan only part? Real expensive part?

Stock exhaust,it's getting old, needs manifold gasket and scrap the cat(no emissions here) What would be the easiest, cheapest route to fix the exhaust(I know it's starting to get a few pin holes in it)

When you stomp on the gas it will surge but if you just slowly mash the gas then it'll take off like nothing is wrong. This is quiet possibly the MAF ain't it? If I'm incorrect can you correct me on this.

Thanks yall seem to be very welcoming and helpful group!

Hole in the manifold or is it an exhaust manifold leak. Many people have extra manifolds laying around. You may even concidering upgrading to an after market header if N/A is your goal. You can get an exhaust piped at a muffler shop for dirt usually or stay under $200 for a complete exhaust system. Your surge problem could me MAF. I would change out plugs and wires before I would suspect the MAF. Pretty much do a tune up becuase the it sounds like it needs one. The MAF can be cleaned with electrical connections cleaner, just don't touch the element inside.
