I just picked up a 90 240 coupe. With a sr notch top. I come from the world of Miatas (I needed more power and room). This will be a DD/TT car I am not into drift. I like grip to much at this time. Right now I am going through and fixing the previous owners botch job. The main thing is the body is in great shape and only 1 crack in the dash. I have a few questions at this time that I can't seam to find answers for. I have tried the search feature and have not found anything useful. I am inept at things sometimes so if I missed it I am sorry.

Tow hocks. What are people doing for them?
Bolt in roll bar. What is out there besides Autopower (good option, but would like more options besides custom)?
Are there any tow hitches available for the car?

I have searched for the following questions but I find way too many drift threads and or all out race alignments.
With a miata you want 2 deg of camber in the rear and more up front. Is that the same with the 240?
In a miata you want 0 toe front and rear. What about the 240?

Please be kind I am new here. I am not trying to step on any ones toes.

Have a great day,
Jared

Unless you're in some particular class that requires them, aftermarket tow hooks usually aren't necessary. If you're going to do a cage, get a proper welded in one or don't bother. You can bolt a tow hook to any car you want, but there is not really any place to do that on s13.

In reguards to the tow hooks. I know I dont need them, but if I go off and need a tow I would rather they hook to a proper tow hook than an axel or controll arm. it's all precautionary. Hell Ill even cut a hole in the bumper and put a strap. I don't care what my car looks like just that it runs well. I also dont want to hook my own car up to the hook in the mud.

As far as the roll bar is concerned I am going to be running seats and harnesses so I NEED a roll bar. I can live without a cage. Safety is very important to me so a bar is a must.

Have a great day,
Jared

Cusco makes a roll bar I think but doesnt come with cross bars tho. Why not go autopower. I have autopower on my 92 240sx coupe and on my 91 crx and fitment on both cars was just great! I love the autopower on my coupe, feels so goood! For my s13 I decided to get the cross bars to be bolt in, so incase I have to put ppl in my rear seats, then I can unbolt the cross bars.

I have no problem with the autopower its just that I want to see whats out there. I have friends with the same bar as you have but in their M3'a. I am leaning towards getting the same bar that you have for the same reason that you list. Do you have any pictures of the bar installed in your car?

Have a great day,
Jared

Looking to cage my s13 up as soon as I get rid of my back seats (I never understood why they had it in there, nobody fits back there except for a baby...) so I'm glad somebody asked this :)

As for tow hooks, why would you need one? I understand your concern for ruining your axels but you're in Cali, so theres no need for it unless your getting your car impounded. And since you are running an SR, if your car gets impounded you're never getting it back unless you registered it as a racecar or whatever.

My car is my dd. However it doubles as a time trials car as well. For me tow hooks are manditory for track use. Some dont think so.

Ahh I see, If you have to money I'd say get a beat up car for a DD and use your 240 strickly as a Trial Car and get it registered as a Track Car.

If your car is a daily I wouldnt get a cage, its dangerous, juat get a 4 point roll bar. If u daily a car with a cage and u crash. U will end up dead if ur head hits the bar. Thats why cage is only recommended for track use. The roll bar is behind you, way less change u could hit the roll bar with ur head.
If you want to add a harness get schroth profi II FE asm harness. Its fia,dot street legal. Thats what im using and loving it.

Jdm240, you may not die but you most likely have severe brain damage. As far as the harness go I will most likely go with the safecraft harnesses. Had a chance to drive a car with a set and I liked how they are designed also I know the owner. I like to help support friends and the little guy. If I dont get them I will go with g-force fia rated harnesses. I get some good discounts at my work. Thank you all for your advice. Now some guidance on the alignment please?

Have a great day,
Jared

Whoops got my words mixed up... When I said cage I meant to get a roll bar, A full cage would be unnecessary for me... Sorry for the confusion.

I know this post is about roll bars (my opinion you roll a 240 that's like mine 2 inches off the ground you got skills) anybody uses harness bars or is that unsafe etc I want the best way to make my 240 safer (no abs + no airbag + no life insurance = angry parents)

When you're driving sideways, it's possible.

All I can say is invest in good seatbelts.

Roll bar ftw! Dont use those harness bars, they will bent to hell in a crash. I seen a pic of one and it was bad! Roll bar plus good aftermarket seat plus a schroth profi II fe asm 4 point harness and ull be safe-er.

I managed to roll a miata and needed the roll bar. So anything is possible.

I beg to differ with your statement. Anyone that runs harnesses without a harness bar is unsafe.

Jared

At least with a 240, you got a metal roof over your head.. Not some raggy cloth. :P

Where in CALI are you located? I'm enjoying my 72+ Degree January weather.. :D
Oh and btw, cops don't really give you any s*** as long as you don't:
A) Drive like a twit.
B) Don't have an aftermarket LOOKING exhaust.
C) Keep your REG's up to date.

Oh and for alignment stuff:

3 to 4 degree's negative for the front
0 to 1 degree's negative for the rear
0 to 1/8 toe out for the front
0 to 1/8 toe in for the rear
7 to 7.5 degree's positive caster up front
And keep your stock traction arms in the rear, no need to adjust that at all..
I've seen people get adjustable ones and not knowing what to do with them, they simply adjust them to stock length.
lol :slap:

This should be every performance oriented 240's starting point and adjust from here.
I personally have to run more negative camber in the rear for fitment purposes..
Overfenders where you at! ;)
