Hello guys!

Here to introduce myself and ask for advice/assistance. Long time lurker at g35driver but decided to register here to get opinions of owners/technicians of the G37.

This may be a little long winded so I apologize in advance. This has been weighing heavily on my heart for the past few weeks and I'm reaching out to this community for help. I purchased a 2008 Infiniti G35 Sport Sedan 6MT late last year. I've only done two oil changes during my ownership and have since run into a few very expensive problems. Maybe it was lack of research on my part but I am experiencing some of the "common" issues that are prevalent on the VQ35HR. This is my first Nissan product and I am quite befuddled about some of the engineering choices made on this car.

#1: my slave cylinder will need to be replaced which means master cylinder will need to follow and while the bell housing is open the clutch may also need to be replaced (I am not convinced that the 2007 recall was rectified for the 2008 model year...I'm currently fighting Infiniti Consumer Affairs)

#2: when changing my spark plugs recently I noticed oil in cylinder #1. After some research I found it to be a common problem but requires NEW valve covers because the spark plug seals are not user replaceable (yes, I am aware of some of the DIYs out there).

#3: P0011 and P0021 for the VQ35HR V36 that seems to be a matter of WHEN not IF it will happen. The good news is that I am not throwing the codes yet but am considering an oil pressure test in the very near future.

#4: I have some very odd hairline cracks all over both headlights. I am afraid that they will become larger and introduce moisture into them ruining the very expensive headlights (with AFS btw). The headlights work just fine but only the plastic housing seems to be the issue.

I have since paid off the car and am in the midst of deciding on if I should sell the car and move on. It should be noted that I LOVE to drive this car! It is a very fulfilling drive and it puts a smile on my face almost all the time but considering that I may have to sink another 3K-5K into her makes me think I should look into something else.

That being said, I have started looking into the G37 (amongst other cars) so my question is: does the VQ37HR have these same pitfalls or have they been "addressed?" Would it be foolish to move from a G35 to a G37 since I may have to deal with very similar problems?

Thanks for taking the time to read this! Any insight from experience (or Infiniti Techs ;p) will be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

You should have paid an Infiniti dealer to throughly inspect the vehicle prior to purchase.
They can run the VIN number and give you a complete service history or lack of it.

Good luck

Used car inspection was purchased at an Infiniti dealer. To be fair, these issues are not really within "scope" of the inspection. Everything else checked passed with flying colors.
