Car: '92 Q45

Post

Hello everyone,I have just bought a '92 Q45,a car that i have wanted for a very long time.It is in ok shape, the moter is very strong and has only 132000 km's on it.There are a few little problems with it that I need to get cleared up.The TCS light and the slip light stay on,the TCS button doese not seem to be working,so The car only operates in full posi track. The strange thing is is that the 10 disk sony changer isnt working either, since the control for the disk changer and the TCS switch are right together in the same console,I was thinking that possibly something is wrong under the console, any ideas how to take it off?The car seems to idle a touch rough but is quiet. If anyone has had the same problem as I have described here, a little advise would be great.Great forum with tonnes of VERY usefull info on these great cars.

Thanks in advanceAaron

Wow 34 views and no reply I guess as always I have to welcome the new guy.

You can perform the diagnostic your self or have a local Infiniti dealer to check and see whats wrong with TCS (Traction Control System), to check your self: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/1994_Q45/br.pdf

The TCS button only disables the TCS so by having it already disabled right now (Because both TCS OFF and SLIP lights are illuminated).

The car has a VSLD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viscous_coupling_unit) So both wheels are supposed to spin when going straight.

What does the CD changer say on the controller?

The CD changer and the TCS switch may be together on the center console but they are very much apart from each other.

You can read this on removing the center console: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/1994_Q45/bf.pdf but there is no reason because the TCS button and CD changer controller are good its just that the CD changer may be bad and there is some thing else wrong with TCS.

I would read this about the rough idle: http://www.q45.org/roughidle.html

And of course read the rest of the FSM AKA Factory Service Manual: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/Q45/1994_Q45/

Welcome to NICO.

WOW!! Thanks for all of the great info Paul. The controler for the changer is blank....nothing showing at all,I cant remove the cd cartdrige, probaly i am guessing because there is no power going to it.Is it alright to drive the Q witht he TCS light on and the Slip?I am guessinf it is,but is super crappy in the snow, any touch of the gas really shoots the car sideways.

I have checked the fuses under the hood and next to the door, all are fine.I will attempt to self diagnose test it in the morning.

As far a the rough Idle goes, the car has sat for the past 3 months with a empty tank,I put 20$ of 91 octane fuel in it and drove it home,it ran great.Just noticed a very slight shake on idle,it is a v8 though so perhaps its normal. Also I notice a very slight gas smell when i start it with the door open...I am going to run some injector cleaner through it as well as some gas line anti freeze.

So just to clear it up,with the TCS and Slip lights on,the car is just preforming like a car with out TCS?Thanks again for the advise, links and warm welcome!RegardsAaron

Are there wires plugged into the CD changer right?

Fuses have nearly nothing to do with the TCS off lights, but the underhood TCS fuse may be blown.

If you can find some one with a dyno or you can safely get the rear tires off the ground and get them spinning to 30 MPH then do this:

For the rough idle, is there a buzzing noise comming from the back of the car?

The car when properly restored, well you should'nt be able to hear it running never mind any vibrations at idle.

But a Q45 is like a clock, there are many things that can go wrong but when there all perfect well its as perfect as perfect can be for a car of its age.

And without TCS well I hope your foot is a light as paper when driving on the snow.
