new guy - engine question

HI, i'm new to the site. looks great. i hope to be active.

I am in the market for either a 620 or a 521. My question is however, will an L20 bolt into a 521 with minor or no modification?

Yes any L series motor will bolt in as long as the 521 isnt a 69. Those came with the J 13 engines & the motor mounts are different. I also have a 521 for sale.....

Thats a relief to hear. Will the engine mounts be the same or are there others i will need to procure?

 

Apperantly there is a 521 locally that may be available. I put a want ad in the local penny-saver.

TheL series motor mounts are a 2 piece design. 1 part bolts on the block the other to the frame. L 16, L18, L 20 mounts..all the same, basically you could take an L motor from a 620 & "bolt" it right in.

Thanks for the pic, helps alot. The engine I have was built for a friends 510 and he ended up moving, selling the 510, and giving the engine to a mutual friend. Now the mutual friend is moving and doesnt want to deal with the engine. So I'm getting it. Woot Woot.

 

Is there any advantage to using a 5speed from a ZX as opposed to using another 5 speed, from say a pickup?

I believe using a 5 speed from a ZX gives you a taller 5th gear which brings the rpm's down at high speeds.
