Hey all, my name is Matt and I'm new to the forum. I drive a 1987 Nissan Pulsar NX XE and have the same model car but and SE version for a project. Now I know y'all are probably gonna get on to me for not using the search button, but I figured I'd go ahead and ask while I was here. I have a CA18DET with a fried ECU. The code on it is 98, and I've read that it is a RWD ECU. All the ECU's I've seen for sale that are RWD and for MT are a 78. Will it still run my motor? Also, is there anyone here with a spare stock ECU they would like to sell?

Thanks

If it's for a Ca18DET, then it should run it.

First, figure out why your ecu fried (Bad wiring job) and get it repaired before you go investing money to burn "literally". As long as your harness is wired correctly, the ecu should work just fine.

well, i'm located in huntsville, al. I bought a pulsar with a det already swapped in it because the car got totaled in the storms here and flooded the floor boards. the car ran and drove before hand. I tried cleaning out the ecu, but it's definately fried. so i guess it's on to ebay then. thanks

Well, I got my ecu today and I think they sent me the wrong one. In the picture they had it was a 78, but the one I got says 15. Before I send it back I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a CA ecu. So is it? Although I'm thinking its for a KA24E

I searched the code on the ecu and it looks like it's for an RB20 (15 23710 94L10), still not what I need though, but is there any off chance it will run the car right? I figure it'll start it but I wouldn't think the maps or anything would be the same, or would it compensate for everything based on the MAF? (don't think i'm stupid for asking this. i would definately prefer to have what is meant to be in there, I was just wondering if there was any off chance it may work)

Short answer, no way a RB20 ECU is going to run your CA18. Long answer, in theory with some zany custom firmware and harness you could convert it to a 4 cyl ECU... but no, just no.
