...After driving an 86 Lotus daily (!) for the last few years I'd had enough of worrying about impending financial crises at 3:00AM, and was about to throw in the towel and get on the waiting list for a Smart (or alternatively, buy a new Yaris or a CRX). My dad felt that this attitude needed a bit of adjustment and pointed out to me a nice example of one of these a few months back...

...Admittedly in the light of the 240 existing I aesthetically never gave much thought to a 280... But after just driving this one, I had no choice Remarkably, alarmingly original, especially considering that most have been thrashed...

Besides, big bumpers don't look THAT bad, especially as long as I keep it parked away from 240s, 260s, lol. The smoothness and Torque of the injected L28 more than make up for it... It feels like a refined hot rod really, alarmingly modern and surprisingly raw.

In fact it's the best car I've ever driven (yes, better than the Lotus ), and I can't believe I didn't get one earlier... Especially as my dad owned about 5 of them (between 240 and 280ZX) when I was a kid (but was forced to turn them in at age 50 to recieve a government mandate Corvette

I really love this car, have the bug, want an old 610/710/411/B210 for practicality, or maybe a 240 (or S13) to mod the hell out of, lol. This one, however, is too nice and original to touch (my only plan is to repaint in a more citrus hue) The hubcaps have been really my only addition (having supplanted a set of cheesy Kragen plastic things that blew off due to Tremendous Torque on the grapevine, I really like the style of the old daisy caps, and enjoy the polished look).

Looking forward

beautiful car, the 75-76 "big bumper" is much smoother and fitting than the later 77-78, and while your 240z caps do look better than the 280z style they are all rather ugly IMHO, some period correct Panasports are always nice

Haha, thanks for that :D Yes, the later style 77-8 bumpers are, to my eyes, much uglier (especially at the rear) but somehow sportier, less civilized than the ones on my car... At any rate, I like the 240 bumpers better, but they'll only find their way on to the car if someone steals the current set, lol.

These hubcaps are also original to 280s (would have been stock on my car), the later 280 style, like you I also really dislike the later 280 style caps (too angular, always look grubby), but I do love the round caps on my car

Minilite and slot mag style wheels always look good on any Z, but they're too done and I think I get some period flair from these as well... They're so goofy they come around again and look good for me, like beehive B210 ones, it's amusing in that no company would consider something like that nowadays really...

Nice S30 you got. If it's all stock, you should keep it as such until you HAVE to do something about it. such as damage, or engine trouble. Really it'd be a shame to see such a good example of a early 280Z be tweaked away from it's roots. (mine I feel justified because it's not the original paint (bad repaint job too), and the original engine may need a lot of work)

You should really look into the Panasports, they look AWESOME, imho, on any S30. and you can order them in up to 18" diameter to fit whatever tire you'd like.

Beautiful!

I'd be searching for some early bumpers and brackets...

Regardless, keep it stock (or able to be returned to stock)... it's a beauty!!!!

Welcome aboard!

Haha, I want a Z32 right now. A lot. One with two turbos sounds appealing to me I'm about to sell a car with a turbo four banger... I like the idea of turbos, but I think for me they might need to be coupled with a torquey six, as in a Z32

At the same time, I'm thinking about finally getting something "practical", and a 2+2 sounds appealing...

...Then again I might just totally forget that and do something silly and turboish with another S30, and if I come across a 610 or 710 I'll be totally derailed by needing to buy it automatically

Us wienerfolk and our Zs need to stick together B) Though oddly the only pet I have is a giant tortoise.

I must say your car is quite nice. The Z cars no matter what bumpers are always the sex!! yours is a quite clean example that i could only dream about finding here in mass.

great. One thing though i hope you keep it like this. nothing pains me more than to see a beautiful example of an S30 being chopped up.

Yeah, same with me... I like my car to be a time capsule, and don't think the appearance mods most people do add to the Z's style anyway.

I really hate seeing nice (or even beat) old cars chopped up... You're only original once, and there are only so many of these things to go around.

Luckily I bought this Z for what it is, and in terms of both appearance and performance, it's exactly what I want

Any future RB'd or L28 turbo projects will both be built on beaters, not from ripping any existing car apart... And retain a completely stock look, in and out. Not even a lip (I really, really hate lips). But then I wonder how much more enjoyable that sort of car could really ever be to this one. I just enjoy projects, lol.

i think you just made a profound impact on my life!!! See thats the way it should be. people wonder why i have a stock 86 mr2 for so long, but would you honestly do something to a car with 0 rust or rot on the frame? i still have factory radio, spare tire and accesories, no ABS and Power steering. See new cars numb the feel of the car itself. end of rant

We've talked enough about me here. Feel free to hijack the thread and post pics of said MR2, especially if it's supercharged

Ehh, who needs power steering, especially on an MR car with no weight over the front wheels.
