Correct, the USDM GT-R isn't a Skyline, and neither is the JDM GT-R. The Skyline name has been separated from the GT-R to make it its own entity, similar to what Toyota did with the Celica Supra in the 80's. They separated the name into two different cars...and look at the popularity of the Supra.
And the RB doesn't "make" the Skyline, it's just the motor that all the fanbois associate with it because they don't do their research on the car.
The GT-R goes all the way back to 1969 with the PGC10 Nissan Skyline GT-R (4 door) which used a 2.0L S20 inline 6 cylinder.
The engine is a variant of the VQ, the VR38DETT.
There is more to the GT-R than RB26DETT, ATTESA-ETS, HICAS, and R 3X chassis.
