1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 87,000 will traded for either G or M sedan soon! ;)

Post

Hey Everyone,

Stumbled across NICO when doing a Google search for G and M sedan pics. I had a my 1st experience with a G sedan as well as M sedan in Vegas a few years and lets say I was very impressed. I love the power and handling of both vehicles. I currently drive a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora that I have a grown a bit tired of. No excitement like the sound of a VQ motor. Its become a bit hard to decide because I like both 07-09 G35 sedan and 06-09 M45 sedan. I will continue to research as much as possible before I come to final decision. Thank you for this site. Look forward to chatting it up with everyone. Opinions on what I should get very welcomed! ;)

The M45 is a V8 while the G35 is the v6. If you want more comfort and luxury then the M45 will be fore you. The G will be more sportier and not as heavy of a vehicle but a bit less room. I have a G coupe and a M sedan. So I am biased towards both. I would drive both and see what you are more comfortable with.

The 07 - 08 G35 Sedan's can run on Regular gas where the 09+ require Premium base on the user manuals.
Our 08 G35X Sedan runs just fine on regular! But, I normally run mid grade.
I also believe that you can get away with lower octane with a stick since you determine the shift points.....know this from owning 2 pathy's one auto one stick at the same time.

My wife loves the M....I prefer the G due to size and handling.
My wife would also love to drive an aircraft carrier!!!
Something about short people wanting huge vehicles... :chuckle:
However, she really does like the G35X. She mainly drives it and I the 04 coupe.

Would be interested to know how your engine holds up long term.
Hopefully, no issues.
Note to others: Telcoman has a 6MT and knows how to drive it....would be surprised if an AUTO didn't complain about the regular....Have had other Nissan/Infiniti's that did.

Thanks for the welcome...

@SVTCOBRA I just got back from Vegas in the Olds Aurora, it averaged around 25.4 MPG. I do regular maintenance on it. But it still feels sluggish, and plus its the old Northstar V8 ;). At 1st I didn't feel like a old person driving it, now I do. I need something sporty LOL

Plus, I didn't like taking it around the corners...its a LAND YACHT!!!!! Everyone I saw who had a G on my trip looked like the are enjoying them. I want that experience.LOL So do you recommend the 07-08 sedan ?

@audtatious Any option pkgs you recommend I look for? I'm done with the floaty ride of Aurora. ITs gets kinda annoying. My friend who used to have 07 G sedan , told me I should get the Journey w/ BOSE. I live in Los Angeles so I don't need AWD and it has to be a automatic. LOL

I'm pretty conservative with my cars now. Tint will probably be the only thing I do. Already looking into Huper Optik tint. More concerned about the heat reject since I travel to Vegas quite a bit. Was also thinking about getting some Vossen Wheels, but because this is a mostly roadtrip car, I really don't want to deal with rims. I want to enjoy this car.

What are everyone's thoughts?

Depends on what you are looking to spend and whether or not you want to pay the extra for premium. Also, a few years ago we had a shortage of gas...mainly premium. Could happen again. I had one car that basically sat due to this.
The G37's (09+) with the 7 speed transmission do get a little better mpg.
So, if it were between a low mileage 08 and 09, I would prob. pic the 08 due to the fuel flexibility. just my .02

BTW, I test drove a new 2014 Mustang GT 5.0 auto yesterday....waaay to floaty for me!!! Would have to immediately change the suspension if I were to buy it.
Plus with the 3.15 gearing , didn't feel as fast as it should with 420 HP!!! :frown:
Left the dealership in my 04 G35 coupe smiling! :chuckle:

You may have a change of heart when the 2015 Mustang comes out. I don't know how Mustang fans are going to like the Fusion frontend styling. I know the suspension is supposed to be dramatically changed, so they say.

I wanted the new Camaro, but don't like the price of them. Some say the performance is just not there as like the outgoing 98-02 models. Thats why I want the G. You get everything you want in a G even for a decent price used. I have found some low mileage 08 sedans as low as $16,000!

I am SOOOOOOO ready for Ford to take the Mustang forward away from the retro crap!!! It was fun the first year, but got old quick for me....Plus, my first car was a 69 Mach 1 and is why I liked the 96 and 97 SVT's I had. The cockpit was similiar.
Anyway, yes! Ready for interior that looks up to date!!!
Will be tempted when they come out. Will def. be test driving one.
But, no way in hell I can stomach the current interior regardless of the 420 HP 5.0
Look at a Consumer Reports on the G also...can get much better in the ratings.

I thought CR was to be avoided because of their one-sided reviews? I've been using Edmunds, Cars.com, and autotrader reading the consumer reviews of the G. That's how I purchased my 07 Honda Accord. It helped greatly.

So, over the retro styling? I was already turned off from the Mustang when I saw the concept at the 04 SEMA show. See, the car that was there had the Eleanor taillights. A lot of people I know didn't by one at the time because the car wasn't even close to the concept. I hope they do better this time around.

Looks like GM has a foot ahead, with the Camaros new styling. Supposedly the car being used in the 4th installment of the Transformers is the way the car will look for the 2016 model year.

I've fairly new to G35 ownership, but I've loved every second. I have a smile on my face every time I get in. (except when I know I'll be stuck in rush hour...)

In which areas do you consider CR to be one-sided?

My family and I have been semi-avid readers of the magazine.
I would tend to agree that the "review" ratings (0-100) tend to be biased because I swear all the reviewers are mid 40s soccer moms. Waaay too much stock in how much storage space, road noise, and the layout of radio buttons. A good portion of drivers probably care less about these things. (Plenty probably want more pronounced engine noise if anything) That said, you'll probably like a 90 more than a 70 in almost any scenario.

In terms of reliability ratings, I personally find them to be pretty accurate, and I think they tend to match up with other reliability reports. This automatically leads them to recommend Japanese over American cars, but it is backed up by statistics.

I've used CR to influence my purchases a few times and I've always been very happy, but of course everything should be taken with grain of salt. EDIT- oh and as far as I can remember both the G and M have had CR ratings north of 95 (AWD and RWD).

Good luck on your decision!

@larsG35 So that's who is making the reviews...should have known...LOL. The only reason I had sad that because I was a loyal American car buyer and all the reviews seemed to be against them. Now I know why. Quality is not there.
I bought my Honda back in Dec 2011 with 65k on the odo. It now has 185k. That's with regular maintenance of course. No major problems to report.

I found out today 2 people in my complex just brought brand new G37 sedans!

CR is only one of the sources I check and it's basically for reliability as opposed to their opinions regarding handling/ride/leg room, etc. I think their ratings are pretty close other sources.
As for the Mustang, we'll wait and see what the future brings....I could even deal with the current exterior if the interior were current, but with that and the suspension needs and the 315 gearing....I'll wait.

So, what are you leaning toward??

I'm on my second G, i had a 2005 G35x and now i drive a 2010 G37x. I have drove the M many times. i say get the newest G you can afford as they only got better every year. The same thing can be said for the M as well, only difference with the M is the exterior stlying of the M did change almost every year... so one year might meet your eye taste and one might not. I personally would get the V6 M35/M37 as the V8 M45/M56 are not the best on gas. like some said it depends on your bias which one you should get... if you want a luxury bais go M, if you want a sport bias go G. for example only the M can get a heated steering wheel, but the sport package for the G is more equiped. The Ms ride is more plush than the Gs but niether are "yachts" on the road. If you need a child seat both cars will accomendate... with the M doing a better job since it has a bigger back seat.

as far as packages... to me... if you dont have at least the prem and Nav package you are not getting the full experience from infiniti. so those two are a must... past that its just extra satey features, visual upgrades, bigger wheels. (sports package usually adds better brakes, stiffer supension, limited slip diff, "better" front seats)

the M & G share the same great V6... i put 72k miles on my g35 without a single problem past a dead battery. I now have ~99k miles on my g37 with out a single problem past a dead battery. my car stills runs like new... its kinda crazy!
