A couple of weeks ago I had to replace two front tires on the Q as one of the tie rod ends was bent that cause excessive inner wear. Since I needed to replace one inner tie rod end I decided to replaced inner and outer tie rods on both sides and had the wheels aligned. I wanted all tie rods to be from the same point in time. Amazingly the old rod end joints showed little wear after 124,000 highway miles.

The Michelin MXM4s had been running on the 2003 18 inch Q45 wheels for at least 7 years. While the rear tires could have run for another 10,000 miles it was time for a change.

So I checked out several tires and landed on some Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS Pole Position. The new tires completely changed up the way the car handles and drives for the better. Overall the ride improved, less noise, and I can take curves even faster without hearing any tire crying or feeling break away. The tires seem to feel great on both dry and wet pavement. Based on wet pavement performance and the tread pattern I think the tires will do fine on the mild snows and ice we get seem to get around here.

The suspension is crisp with Tokico Blues (front and rear), 20mm rear anti-sway bar/28mm front, new end links with poly bushings, and SPL sub-frame spacers.

Actually my local Firestone dealer made a nice deal that nearly matched a mail order price considering shipping and installation. So I couldn't complain about price.

Here's a picture of the tire below.

Well, you can if you buy their passenger car tires, which these are.

Summer maximum performance is where it is at. Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position is what one wants if one forgoes the slightly superior Michelin PSS.

New "quality brand" tires will always make a positive impression in comparison to used tires. Add to that the fact you're previous tires were old (no tire performs very well after 4 years, not to mention 7).

I don't think you'll see a drop off, and these should last you several years as well.

End the end, you should be rather happy.
